I'm concerned about pine mouth too (even though I'm not a squirrel). I wonder if it gives you pine-fresh breath? I'll ask startingover if she's heard of it/is concerned about it (she is a squirrel and knows about such things).

I didn't know what "pine mouth" was until just a few days ago. Apparently, a small portion of the population has an unpleasant reaction to the consumption of certain pine-nuts. The day after consuming said nuts, the reactive party is afflicted with a vile, bitter taste in the mouth that can last for one to four weeks. Nothing tastes good, even sweets.

I was mystified, as I've consumed millions of pine-nuts in my day. Turns out that this relatively new phenomenon has occurred since businesses began using chinese pine-nuts in their mix, of which most or many are not really good for humans to consume. So as usual, businesses are using crappy ingredients to boost their profits.

My local market used to have them in bulk, but discontinued the product. Pine-nuts are extremely expensive, and I suppose it wasn't worth their while to carry them any longer. I ended up buying a small package of "Fisher" pine-nuts. I'm thinking the old "bulk" nuts at my local market were not imported from China. The Fisher ones are- I went back to the store and checked the packages out.

The effects are finally beginning to wane, so I guess I am lucky in that I'm apparently one of those who are afflicted for only one week.

Yep. He couldn't believe his good fortune. He didn't have to work at all to get those seeds!
