      Morning Grundy's!

Ah, 22c here today, and blue skies at last! It will doubtless rain over the weekend when i'm off.
Will source more top jokes while 'they're' away for tonight. he he. I'm finding i'm turning up my amplifier more too!

Umm, i've just read on the news, this headline.....'Should drug addict's be sterilised'? What the F*^%?!!
The angle is babies being born addicted. Many folk beat their addictions, as we know.

Have a safe, sober, and magical day folk's!

        hey all, sup?
a guy i was speaking to claimed 5% of peeps who atain AF'dom, retain it in AA circles. he seemed to think that was a great effort, to me that means 95% relapse. so what % of problem drinkers never show up in the first place? anyone hear of the number of problem drinkers in aus? at my work we have a 'smoke seasation' program runs a few times a year,it is under the supervision of the WHSO, who is a RN. no talk of an AA type thing, stigma anyone? so sad, we have the pollies talking up the binge drink argument, but i dont see jack squat on TV for places like this or AA or any helpfull stuff, just 'drink responsably' type stuff, like they think its a chooice for some people...frustrates me to no end.
I it is realy a disease and is something we have inhereted/caught from family/enviroment, why the shame??? so saddens and confuses me... i have told just abaout anyone who stands still long enough that i am an alcholic(now that i have some kind of handle on it granted) in the hope of opening peoples eyes that, yes there are people who they like or respect that they think are good workers/lovers/fathers/members of socitey that have this problem and they can help by pointing to places like this and AA.

well thats my rant, i never do so it was about time.

joke:Q. Whats brown and full of people?
        A. A satisfied cannibal...

In March 2008, the Australian government earmarked AUD$ 53 million towards a campaign against binge drinking, citing two studies done in the past eight years which showed that binge drinking in Australia was at what Prime Minister Kevin Rudd called "epidemic levels".[55]

yeah and this: G. i heard that news report....what the f@#k indeed...that stuff reeks of Hitler and his Aryan society (get the master race by eliminating those less-than perfect).......Tell ya what if they look real hard they might be doing mass sterilisation given the amount of folks who have problems and dont own up to it........utterly outrageous!!!! I'm appalled.

Amen Aspy. The subject is one of my hobby horses too. In NZ, there are NO alternatives to 12-step type programmes, despite the research that they dont suit everyone. IN addition, there is little offered in the way of rehab services other than intensive residential programmes, for which there are long waiting lists. I've talked a lot to my GP about this in my attempts to find a counsellor/therapist that understands addiction - they are few and far between. And in the last budget drug and alcohol addiction services had major funding cuts.

Good on you for being open and honest about it. I've thought a lot about that too, because I think it takes people standing up and saying "This is a problem I have and I've learned how to manage it, and there are lots of people like me out there" to help to de-stigmatise alcoholism and make it easier for more people to seek help.

anyway, we have to pack up and head off this morning ........ I have had the best week that I've had for a long time and feeling much more relaxed! Probably wont be back on line until Friday when I'll be back home ...... go for your life with the emoticons :H :record::notes::banana:

HAve a great day one and all!!

53 million...your kidding.......I would say that most of that went of top heavy beauracrats...as far as I can tell...in my own backyard and the way that kids around here party....it hasnt even began to touch the sides.....I've got a bee in my bonnet about the availibility of the stuff. When I was a teenager, the local pubs were the only places you could by al from. And they closed at 10pm weeknights and didnt open on Sundays. The barman knew everyone that bought grog over the counter and you didnt dare try to buy it. Nowdays it is available almost 25/7 with a lot of pubs staying open till 5am in the bloody morning. The style of drinking with young folk is terrifying. CLose the pubs at a decent hour and bomb the bottle-shops...stop the supermarkets from being able to sell it...anyone agree?

Phrases about people casting the first stone come to mind ......

There was a lovely bit of poetic justice in NZ recently when an MP from a minor party who was a hard-line law and order "lock 'em up and throw away the key" sort of person was found to have 2 criminal convictions that he had failed to disclose (one of them quite serious). He was forced to resign. And what was interesting was the flood of pollticians who then also admitted to offences that we hadn't known about .......
