I was at a BBQ the other night and there were about 13 or 14 teenagers there. As the night wore on, I just watched them. They went from one activity to another, finally ending up playing "freeze tag" in the dark (I joined them, but not for long. lol) It occurred to me how much fun they were having without alcohol, nicotine or any other outside substance. None of them felt a "void". They were living in the moment, and the sound of their laughter was amazing.
I think that's what most of us are striving to get back to. It CAN be done. We were all there at one point, where it did not even occur to us that we were "missing out" on something. We let ourselves get swept away in the thought that we can't have fun without a drink or a drug (thanks to a lot of advertising also). But the truth is, we CAN. We just need to recognize these things for what they are...poison. We didn't need it in the past, and we don't need it now.
