Can It Be
This easy to quit smoking? I'm heading into my 2nd weekend. I'm worried that it's so easy that I'm going to fail (twisted thinking, I know). It's like I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop....:heart:I love my daughter more than alcohol:heart:

K, it IS pretty easy, but the fail in it is when a suddenly, for no reason, we buy another pack. A lot like AL.sigpic

The big difference between nicotine and alcohol is that nicotine is really easy for your body to forget about. Since I quit 4 years ago, I contemplate having a cigarette about once a year - and the thought vanishes within a millisecond. It's not "One day at a time" by any stretch of the imagination. It's like deciding to stop studying Latin. You just wonder why you bothered in the first place!
Alcohol, on the other hand, seems to be far more fishy, and I don't mean I've been dunking herring in my schnapps. It looks like us lucky alcoholics will be thinking about booze pretty much every damn day of our lives, whether we like it or not, until we croak. (Of course, you can cheat like I do and use Baclofen!)

You're right Techie. I went outside this morning just to look around my backyard (haven't been out there in a few days...) and I looked at where I used to sit and I couldn't even imagine lighting up a cig. The key, like Ruby said, is just not buying another pack...if I had them, I would smoke them.
p.s. Why do male dogs walk and pee and the same time? Can't they just take a minute and finish the job? (Backyard observations) :H:heart:I love my daughter more than alcohol:heart:

DO be on your guard Hon.....I found it easy so many times and failed....for me, giving up the smokes was a million times worse than giving up the booze.....
I would walk out in a typhoon with bare feet to get smokes..I shudder when I think of it now but I would be doing great and a little thing would upset me and off I would be to get a pack...any little excuse would do..
I know that Just one puff and I would be back where I started and I have not got another quit in me..
You are doing fantastic x"It's not your job to like me, it's mine!"

This was true for me, too, K9. It took me a year not to want a smoke every morning when I woke up and another year not to want one when I saw someone else doing it. Now it makes me sick just to smell it, wouldn't even think of picking one up (ten years in).
It's been a lot easier, for me, with alcohol (so far--knock wood). No cravings. Just woke up horrified at the point I had gotten to, and that was it (the only other person here who's experience has sounded similar to mine with this is Sk8). So, reading above, I guess it varies by person.
The pic is from a new AUS campaign to replace commercial packaging on cigs with "plain" packaging (not so plain, IMHO). Pretty motivating!

K-9, you are doing so fantastic with quitting the butts. Enjoy the freedom.
I could never make it past the three week mark without eventually caving in....
Are you doing it cold-turkey?
I think for a lot of things, such as drinking.... some just get sick and tired of it and give it up. They wake up one morning and just stop and never look back - or miss it! Maybe you are one of those lucky people!!

Actually those horror cigarette packages showing blackened lungs, rotting teeth etc tend to be rather counter-productive. All they do is instill anxiety into the smoker, and what's a smoker do when he/she is anxious? Smokes a ciggy.
They have done wonders for the makers of snazzy little cigarette cases, however.
