I am not going to drink today.
I'm not going to drink today, because I want to be fully present for movie night with my kids. We'll have popcorn and cuddle up together and why would I want to be buzzed for that???"When she enjoyed her drinking she couldn't control it, and when she controlled it, she couldn't enjoy it." I am not going to drink today.
I have a bad cold, cough and congestion. I hated it when I used to have a drink when I had a cold; alcohol dries you out, makes the symptoms worse. yuck! And we're going out to see a play, I would just fall asleep.
Hi SaraSmiles! I've been wondering how you've been doing. My life is better without alcohol, since 9/1/12. My sobriety tool is the list at permalink 236 on the toolbox thread under monthly abstinance.

I am not going to drink today.
Hi Sunbeam,
I'm sorry you have a cold! :l You're right, it would be awful to drink and dehydrate yourself more. Take care of yourself! And good choice, Choice!
I've had a wonderful evening with my kids, and I felt very aware of how great it is to be sober. Happy, cuddly kids, and an alert and happy mom. I tried to soak up every moment, and to remember that it won't last forever. Nights like this make me wonder why I would ever drink again."When she enjoyed her drinking she couldn't control it, and when she controlled it, she couldn't enjoy it." (from The Big Book)

Sometimes I find it helpful to just make a committment for what I'm going to do about AL for TODAY.
TODAY, I am not going to drink any AL. I can do anything for just one day. I will worry about tomorrow when it gets here.
Anyone with me here? Anyone willing to make a decision to not drink today, no matter what? No excuses?
Here is my plan:
I have a busy schedule for today and none of the places I am going are AL serving places.
I will work out because exercise helps!
There is no AL in my house.
I have read several posts on threads here that help me stay sober.
I have plans to attend an AA meeting to keep my head in the right place.
What are you doing to keep AL out of your life today?

No alcohol for me today - it's a bright, sunny (wet) Sunday and I have the whole day to look forward to alive, energised with Spring just around the corner.......Enjoy today - there will be no other one quite like it....

I am not going to drink today.
I am not going to drink today because I'm so much happier when I don't!
We're having friends over for a Mexican meal I'll fix, and Hubby will make Margaritas. On some abstract level, the idea of having one seems appealing...But when I think of what it's really like to get buzzed and sleepy, sloppy and disinhibited...to wake with anxiety in the night and guilt and regret in the morning, no thank you!! Even if I only had one, (which would be unlikely) I still wouldn't feel as good as I do when I just don't drink at all!
So, my plan is to sip seltzer with pomegranate juice, and keep telling myself how much better tomorrow will be if I don't drink tonight!
Also, I find I feel more motivated to take care of myself when I've taken the time to make myself look good! Maybe that's weird, but it's true. Tonight I'll put on some makeup, and jewelry, and wear the clothes I look best in. I will be the put-together, relaxed, confident woman I want to be!"When she enjoyed her drinking she couldn't control it, and when she controlled it, she couldn't enjoy it." (from The Big Book)

I totally agree with you Sara, I feel much more motivated to take care of myself when I've taken the time to look good. And I'm happier when I don't drink too. So odd that I use to think the opposite. Your dinner sounds lovely!

I just wish I could actually ADHERE to what you said. I will get there, I know it. Thanks Doggy. xxx I hope this post sounds positive because at the moment I am in a very negative mood.
Never give up Pan. I hope you will make a plan for today, and be willing to do whatever it takes to get sober. I used to thing I wanted to be sober, but there were all kinds of things I was not willing to do in order to get there. No wonder I couldn't get there. Not sure if this is true for you, but I came to mind so thought I would mention it.

I'm glad I decided not to drink today. If I had drank, I would have fallen asleep before half time and missed the end of the Bears / Seahawks game. It's nice to watch a sporting event and know how it ends.
