Hi Reenie: You might check out The Meadows in Arizona. I didn't do in-patient there, but I did a week of intensive out-patient (only thing I could possibly afford!). Their therapeutic model was/is the most interesting one I've seen. I had already been following the work of trauma specialists Peter Levine and Bessel van der Kolk, who helped put their program together. No idea what a longer stay would be like, but the week was powerful and helpful. Good luck!

If you are interested in a scientifically based approach check out Accelerated Recovery (Atlanta area). They have a 2 week program and great success. They have intensive individual counselling and stay current in the medical approaches to alcohol dependence. They can help with medical detox and prescribe the appropriate medicines. They also have an awesome aftercare program of as long as you want.

SunnyV, thanks for that info. People ask me a lot about places near us, and i didn't know about that one. Will check it out and bookmark for future reference. Sometimes, just getting out of our daily environment is a great catalyist!
