Bonfire Night: Tips to keep pets safe
Animal charities are giving pet owners tips to keep their furry friends safe and stress-free this Bonfire Night.
The PDSA, RSPCA and Blue Cross have all produced guides filled with hints and tips to help keep animals calm and collected when the fireworks start this weekend.
The charities are advising owners to build dens to give their pets a shelter in which to hide should they become scared.
Other advice includes closing windows and curtains, and playing music to muffle the loud bangs and to ensure their pets are fitted with microchips should they manage to escape.
For outdoor pets, owners are urged to move cages, pens or aviaries inside or partly cover them with blankets so that one area is well sound-proofed. Owners of small animals are urged to provide extra bedding for them to burrow in.
And the charities advise acting normally and ignoring the fireworks will also help to keep pets calm. Reassuring them will reinforce their fear and teach them that it is the correct response.
