    Today is Day ONE!????

I am going to try to make today day one. I have some questions...

1.) I have tried lemon water in the past, doesn't work. any other suggestions?

2.) Anxiety. I have a script for Xanax. Does it count as an AL free day in the beginning if I use it?

3.) Boredom. When the wife goes to sleep the demon wakes up! Does this sound familiar to anyone? what do you do to get over this time?

That is all I have for now. I am not convinced yet, but I am about 70% there that I will give it a go today.

    Bring on the advice!

#2 - It absolutely does count as AF. Use whatever tools you need to keep from drinking. That is why it was prescribed. It is natural for your body to feel anxiety when you first stop drinking. Use the Xanax to control that.

#3 - Stick to this site like glue. Or read. Or do a puzzle. Or watch a movie. Or stand on your head. Do anything but drink. :l:l

      Hi there Trapped,

1.) I have tried lemon water in the past, doesn't work. Any other suggestions?
Lemon water is more of a way to fill up your glass with something other then AL, but is also good for you. I use it in replace of beer, since I love cold beverages, and I prefer either Pelegrino or Perrier. I'm not a big fan of still water.

2.) Anxiety. I have a script for Xanax. Does it count as an AL free day in the beginning if I use it?
Ofcourse it does! You didn't drink AL, therefore it is an AL free day.

3.) Boredom. When the wife goes to sleep the demon wakes up! Does this sound familiar to anyone? what do you do to get over this time?
We all get bored, find something to fill up the time, some sort of a distraction. Pick up a book, watch TV, come on here, cook something..anything, hell even go to bed early for a little mommy and daddy time (wink wink).

You can do this! Just put your mind to it and get through one day. You may get withdrawls if you've been drinking heavily..and you may not. But you'll never know until you take the plunge and really try. Good luck my friend!

Trapped...we will all be here to help you get through this. I have been drinking sweet tea like crazy...not the best for you but whatever works right? Alot of folks here drink herbal teas, too.
Definately use the xanax...my doctor proescribed klonopin and point blank told me to use it if needed instead of drink
I love my family more than alcohol.:h

          Yay dad!!!! Go for it!!

          1) lemon water has a purpose - to help you body rid itself of toxins. Right now, drink what you'd like to drink - caffeine free preferably. I like seltzer water with a splash of cranberry juice and a squeeze of lime. Keep a glass of something in your hand to keep it busy.

          2) in my opinion, xanax is not AL; AL free is AL free. Go for it if you need it, but don't use it as a replacement.

          3) perhaps something different? something you don't associate with AL. A man-project like organizing your workbench sort of thing? Plan a weekend get-away? Solitaire, crossword puzzle? Mediation or yoga DVD? Rent movies you like.

Hope that helps some. YOU CAN DO THIS!!! IT'S ONLY FOR TODAY!!!

                  Today is Day ONE!????

                  Hi Trapped,
Yay! I'm so glad you've (almost) decided to make this day one! You will never regret not drinking!

                  1) I drink flavored water...Vitamin Water or Fuze.
                  2) If you don't drink alcohol, that makes it an alcohol free day. I use Ativan from time to time myself.
                  3) I watched so many movies the first few weeks. Read a good book. Organize the garage. Anything to keep you distracted.

Hang in there. You CAN do this, and we're behind you all the way!!

                    Today is Day ONE!????

I have posted this before but for some reason Spicy Tomato juice with lemon or lime over ice really helps me. Also any sparkling water - Perrier is my fav, but seltzer water will do in a pinch. As far as the demon waking up, like everyone said, make a plan - watch TV, read, whatever. I never had that problem since I am not a great sleeper anyway and by the time bedtime rolls around I can barely move I'm so exhausted. Plus when I was drinking I would just be OUT as soon as I hit the bed. Good luck to you today - you are strong, you just don't believe it yet

                          Today is Day ONE!????

                          1. I used fruit juice mixed with sparkling water, it will take you a few tries to find one that you really like.

                          2. There is no alcohol in Xanax, go for it if it takes the edge off, but as Greenie says, don't use it as a replacement.

                          3. In the early days, I used to come on here and post music, read old posts, go into chat etc etc, it kept me and my hands busy and before I knew it, it was time for bed.

I PROMISE you one thing TD, if you do today and get that one AF day done, it will pave the way for many others, the first is the worst and you WILL make it....it's a matter of hanging on and getting thru the night, it is not easy but it IS doable and you will be delighted with yourself in the morn...

                            Today is Day ONE!????

Quite the list, Oney! Love it!

Good for you, TD!! Sending you tons of strength to get through your first day.

When I quit, I went to bed early and just watched the TV. My mind and body was so exhausted from all the abuse, the bed was screaming at me. I also took a 5mg Melatonin to curb the anxiety and withdrawal symptoms. I felt really relaxed just laying there. I also slept like a log. (It helps with sleep).

Good luck to you! Let us know how you do.
