Is this a normal intake?
At the moment I don't want to spend too much time with my heavy-drinking friends. One of them just asked me out to dinner and I was thinking about how much he drank last time we had dinner. I had 2 glasses of wine. He had 7 pints of beer and said that he'd had 3 more beers directly before meeting me. Looking back, this seems an excessive amount of beer to drink during dinner - but I do not drink beer so I've no idea what is considered a lot. I also noticed that he knocked back the beers very quickly (each pint took him about 5 minutes to drink). Is it normal to drink beer at that speed? Obviously having just given up booze I'm in a slightly vulnerable state right now and I'm just wondering if my friend might be an alcoholic himself?Sober since 2nd November 2010!

Is this a normal intake?
Hi BTC, I would say that drinking before an event (something I always did) is a sign of perhaps having a problem. Slamming back 7 pints that fast, won't leave much room for food, but is also done to achieve a result I would say. That is not social beer drinking, but "partying" beer drinking. However you would need to know what habits your friend has over months and years, and not on just one night. Nevertheless, I would trust your instrincts on this one.
If you are trying to moderate, or not drink, it may be helpful like you wrote, to avoid your heavy drinking buddies for a while. All the best,

Is this a normal intake?
I think that is an excessive amount of beer to drink in a short period of time. Being new to sobriety myself, I'm trying to figure out what kind of drinking situations are "normal". This sounds like heavy drinking to me. Towards the end of my drinking I started to drink really fast and would loose count of drinks. All I knew was I wanted more and more and my tolerance became pretty high so I felt I was in trouble and had to stop. I'm not sure how I would feel watching someone drink that much in front of me right now. Probably kind of scared because I wouldn't know what to do. Good luck to you and your friend. Drinking situations I'm finding confusing to interpret at the moment. All I know is that amount of AL sounds like too much. :h

Just keep your focus on you. xxoo
Just take one day at a time, concentrate on your own health and allow your friend to make his own decisions.
