Oney, that's a lot of money for one tooth.

KTAB that is an outrageous amount of money for one tooth.

Stirly has a solution to yer toof problems. Fly to Greece and go to Stirly's dentist. 60 euro for a filling, 130 euro for a root canal with one root, 150 for two-root tooth, 180 for a tooth with three roots. And he's gentle and careful as anything, you don't even feel the needle when he puts the freezing in plus he's just the sweetest guy - about 35 years old. Oh, and Oney, he's kinda hairy so even tho' you can't see it, I expect he's got a hairy chest...

Don't get me started on the economic situation here. The building industry came to a halt well over a year ago and that has caused a chain reaction for anything related to it. The country is filled with economic and political refugees, a lot of whom beg for money and then send the greater part of what they get back to their home land to help their families there. They estimate millions of euro leave this country every day because of that. I was at the supermarket a few days ago and a man who had been begging came in with his coins to have them replaced by bills. He had a total of 50 euro. I asked the girl at the cashier if she made that much in one day and she said no, but she had considered giving up her job and begging as well. She told me one man who begged outside the same supermarket one Saturday brought his coins in and he had made a total of 85 euro. That's a lot of money for just sitting on the ground and holding out a cap.
I agree, when I am down in the post office, I see people sending A LOT of money home...WADS of money actually....
Sure whY wouldn't ya want to come live here?? Everything is feckin free....down to bleedin hairdo's because of "culture"

A few bleak years ahead whatever happens.
KTAB, that's exactly what's happening here right now. We have a couple who are both civil servants and they've both taken bonus cuts. They estimate that their combined income will be 4000 euro less next year than it has been up til now. And we've just been served with new taxes for 2009 and 2010. Mr. Stirly paid 2500 euro and older son got his bill of 700 euro yesterday. That is on top of the regular income tax that was already paid.

Oh and they've got another new thing this year. You're required to keep all your receipts for things you purchase including your grocery bills. You have to add them all up and hand them over along with your income tax forms. You are required, depending on the amount of money you make in a year to have collected a certain amount in receipts. That is excluding your electricity, water, telephone bills and of course your rent. No medical expenses except medication purchased at the pharmacy and I believe you can add in dentist receipts as well. For example, if you make 20,000 euro a year (ballpark figures here) you have to collect 10,000 euro in receipts. If you collect less, you have to pay a fine of 10% on the amount missing. If you're 2000 euro short of the required amount, you pay 200 euro fine. If you exceed the amount required then you get a 10% refund on the amount you went over by. So what they're doing is making you spend money you might not ordinarily have spent instead of say, putting it in the bank. It's a way of keeping money circulating but I don't like the idea of the government dictating how much money we have to spend.

Speaking of which, I'm off to the supermarket to spend some more...

Hiya Jackie - almost missed you there...:happyheart:

                      Good Morning Folks!
Something not right about all that Stirly. Governments are taking far too much interest in ordinary people's lives and finances. Sure, we all need to pay income tax - and the myriad other taxes that they've managed to get us to blindly agree to pay, but to fund what? Once we've paid they should just f*** off and leave us alone. It's getting like the people are just a resource to be exploited, like cattle. They want us to produce for them and then die as quickly as possible, so as not to be a burden. It gets me really riled....

                              Hello Spud
I find a good walk takes away the edge somewhat and can be really nice this time of year. I'm getting myself a dog after Christmas. I like taking them out, especially at night. There's so much that we miss by not going into the darkness. I once had an owl come down and hover about three feet above a little Jack Russell I had, just for a look. My dog never even noticed it.

I'm just off for wee nap myself before work.
                              I like my sleep.
