Id just like to apologize to any lurkers for any offence caused by the smutty remarks made by my fellow members, Id like to say it was just a one off and normally we behave with nothing but taste and decorum. (but then I'd be lying! :H) In order to survive in an AF world a sense of humor is essential......!

I cant believe Tips and JC lurked for so long! JC 10 months!!!! Really? Wow thank God you both finally posted I cant imagine this place without you :l

I lurked for about a week and to anyone out there thinking of jumping in, COME ON, it really could change your life. :welcome::welcome::welcome:

I am celebrating 60 days sober today (joined after being one day sober) -- a testament to the strength you get from being with these wonderfully supportive and knowledgeable people!

I lurked for 8 months (since January) trying to stop on my own with no success it was only when I registered and started posting that I stopped and have been sober since - 3 months 1 week = 101 days. If only I'd joined when I found the place You have no idea the impact this community can have until you dip your toe in and give it a try.
Enjoy today - there will be no other one quite like it....

An open invite to the lurkers ...

I lurked for 7 months before actually posting. 3 months lurking as a non member?then drinking one night and brave enough to sign up but not post?then another 4 months to post pissed and incoherent.

Being an honest and forthright person who also believes in being accountable, I came back tail between my legs, apologized and started sharing and learning and finding my place in this community. (which has been a vicious political arena at times)

I immediately took on a 30 day challenge really not believing I could go more than 3 or 4 days so soon on my journey (thanks Sunshinegg!).

I believe I was very successful at reaching 29 days (yep-not 30)and I don?t think anyone else actually succeeded in that particular challenge. I was quite discouraged that I didn?t receive more acknowledgement for my huge (I thought) achievement. I did several more 2 and 3 weeks stretches and then decided I would stop counting as that seemed to be discouraging and depressing me.

My goal has been to drink more moderately than I had begun doing. 2-3 bottles of red per week (no more than one in an evening) instead of 6-10 that I had begun drinking (often 2 per evening and the odd 3 bottle night). Since May I am mostly meeting my goals with some slips but ever improving.

I say all this to encourage anyone who has a desire to improve their relationship with AL-whether that is to sever it or develop a healthier respect and use of it. I personally don?t give a rat?s ass if you post drinking, drunk, pissed out of your tree if you are not being nasty for nastiness sake. Things get nasty here occasionally with people who have been sober for some time. Personally I see that as worse than being drunk and nasty as they should know better or be working on themselves rather than throwing stones. Anyhow, I digress.

I particularly want to encourage those who have been away and are embarrassed to come back or those who would like to moderate and join in and share their progress. Moderators seem to have a harder time posting here. Someone recently pointed out moderators are not a homogeneous group with their varied goals but are looking for support just as much as abbers.

There are many people in this community who have made me feel so welcome and then some not so much so, but in the end this is about my journey and this site is supposed to be for support and sharing. I do my best to do that and hope that you dear lurker will too! Best wishes to all in reaching and maintaining their goals!!

have been lurking for the last month simply because i have always bad news, a year and a halve ago my youngest tried to commit suicide (she's doing brilliantly now) then my other daughter had a negative smeartest and needed a partial hysterectomy (she's not out of the woods, tyet) then when the june meetup my youngest daughter split up withn her boyfriend and she was heartbroken and obviously i didnt want to leave her, then the october meeting,, the day before leaving for dublin i got a call from my sis that dad (84) was in hospital with a double pheunomia so went to dublin airport instead to get a flight home.
now i heard that dad has lungcancer, willl know more next thursday, if it has'nt spread he'll have a good chance otherwise it's chemo and radiotherapy
