    Reasons not to drink

Maybe too subjective but hopefully some of these things will hit a chord and help somebody else too:

    1. Life is absurdly short regardless of your spiritual viewpoint or circumstances.

    2. For some, your life discussed in past tense is as forgettable as a newspaper story.

    3. There are no rewards for a death related to alcohol - there are no cirrosis medals - and if anything some people may be bemused and confused about how it even happened to you.

    4. You are beautiful in your own way and somebody out there thinks you are beautiful too even if you don't think your are.

    5. Your life was never meant to go down this road. You've been on the A723 when you should have been on the M1.

    6. Your young sons, daughters, grandsons/daughters, nieces, nephews, godsons and daughters see you as beautiful - why not see yourself like they see you?

    7. Virility - come on... the sex is so much better without the junk.

    8. You may look great on the outside but chances are you look like shit on the inside.

    9. People will trust and respect you more if you don't have broken veins and unnaturally rosy cheeks.

    10. Chances are you won't take yourself too seriously if you abstain - isn't taking everything seriously the bane of the drinker?

This is great Medic, Thank you so much for posting. Very good reasons indeed!!

I've also been thinking about my own mortality lately, ALOT. I guess we sometimes wonder when our luck might run out, or that last fall that breaks our neck in a drunken blackout, or the doctors visit where they say we have pushed our bodies too far.

Thank you for the wake up call.
I LOVE MY SEROTONIN AND BOOZE SCREWS IT UP!!!!!

Lets be friends :welcome: I assume you are having a similar problem to myself and we have apart from this a lot in common (which I can privately state)

All excellent reasons to stay AF. Life, health, respect, integrity, beauty, truth. Our relationships depend on our getting and staying AF. I am just realizing this more as time goes on. Alcohol changes our personality, interactions, and not in a positive way. I've never thought, "I wish I had more to drink last night." Never. I look back at my interactions when drinking and cringe. That is not the real me.

I went to the doc on 14th Dec 2009 and started down this path (few major tumbles enroute), but at that time my doc told me if I kept drinking the way I was I would only probably live another couple of years, so I reckon if I'd kept going I'd be only looking at months left now!

Molly, CONGRATS! Many people would've said "oh well, might as well accept the inevitable," and kept right on the self-destructive path. Thanks so much for the example.
