    Cravings Stoppers

I thought I would start this thread to get a list of every little trick of the trade that you find helps to stop cravings in their tracks. It might be helpful as a sort of ready-reckoner for when a craving strikes and help is needed A.S.A.P. I'll start this off by adding one that I have come up with: Immediatley fill up a jug with about 1.5litres of lemon water and ice. Drink as much as possible of this within two hours, I find this great first aid. Anyone else???????

Interesting thread Saph. I would say anything conducive to happiness for one. It's such an abstract thing to isolate a craving stopper, and so hard to sometimes eliminate when you have your (mental) sights on the drink.

My girlfriend on the phone is a great craving stopper. She keeps my mind off the drink and engaged in great conversation which challenges my brain.Ok, therefore, company that will keep you off the drink. I suspect the athletic Techie may be able to help in that department suggestion-wise (smiles).

      EAT, EAT, EAT

If I have supper I almost never pick up a drink. It kills the craving instantly.

When I am hungry at supper time (which is for many the "craving hours") and choose drink over food I usually always binge.

I know this and sometimes I still don't eat because of it.

Tonight I really wanted some cold beers. There was none in the house so I would have had to go to the store. Instead I focussed on getting supper on the table ASAP sat down with the family and ate. After the first few bites the thought of a beer vanished.

        What a great thread!

        Taking a shower
        Going for a walk
        Drinking water

Thinking about a menu for the week- this usually gets me bored and by that time my thoughts have moved on.

Sometimes just a few deep breaths help

Sometimes I'll look at the clock and say, okay... this craving will last 15 min. After 15 min you will feel better. I've found it helps me to put a mental time limit on my discomfort. Usually I get bored and forget that I've reached the 15 min. If I didn't I'd go another 15. I haven't had to do that yet. But I have had to do my 15 min trick a few times throughout the day some days.

            For me, I would almost always start drinking before I ate anything. The times that I did manage to eat first, I never poured that first glass, so definately its putiing food into my stomach when I feel a craving.For the occasional stronger cravings, I take the L-Glut and that seems to help alot. I read on here somewhere about the main triggers being hungry, anxious, lonely and/or tired..{hence the..HALT reference} and thats all true as well for me and thats when I get my cravings. Maybe not the tired one, because now that Im AF, Im sleeping better than I ever have, and fall asleep easily when Im tired{ which is most days lately!!!}

4 - 6g's eh Tech!! I might have to ramp up my dosage a bit...I've been taking 1g x 3daily, mind you I havent had to ward off a craving/urge in quite some time but will keep this dosage in mind.

This one may sound a bit left of centre but thats what I'm like in person anyway:H Its traditionally used to dampen down an overly amorous constitution if you get my drift......There have been many times when a have been wrestling with urges and after one hour if it hasnt completley gone and other strategies havent worked...I have hopped in a really cold shower...works like a charm...the blood rushes to your head and literally washes away the urge

I've got to try the L-Glut's. I keep hearing that they work!

What I've done so far is made sure to eat something -- and then drink something non-AL, and then if I'm still craving have an ice cream bar or something sweet. I know that's bad, but I'm letting myself do that now and then in the first few months....

                      Great idea Saph, thanks!

I dont think its such a bad thing in the early days to indulge your sweet tooth mylife, if its kicks an urge to the curb then for a little while then its worth it. You know that you will have to address the sugar cravings after a while...but first things first:goodjob:

Gaba Calm under the tongue works great. I think I am addicted to the calmness it helps create almost immediately. Love the stuff!
