The boards seem so quite and unused and the people that do post seem to be having such a hard time and those people seem to out number the long timers. The posts are just few and far between. . .what is up? Where did everybody go?

Christmas is an incredibly busy time of year, and this is what I am feeling.....I love the boards, reading...lurking....posting, but I needed to establish some kind of balance because I was spending way too much time here. I was neglecting some of my other duties. I have work, Christmas decorating and shopping... Regarding why some people are down....the holidays are filled with so much hype...thanks to the media and Hallmark, but for a lot of people, the holidays are filled with memories of hurt, pain and anger. It's difficult especially for recovering alcoholics because there is so much pressure to go to Christmas parties, and for those people are struggling to be AF, it is overwhelming. FYI....research has shown that the suicide rate in the US is the highest between Christmas and New Year's. -

I think alot of people are busy and/or down because of the holidays. Not sure.

Jenny, Yes, some people are down, but many of us are feeling quite good! We have a little chat group in the morning and all of us have been chatting about how much we enjoy the holiday season now that we have some considerable time AF! (Something for all who are beginning their AF journey to look forward to!!) It is not that any of our lives have been easy, nor without ups and downs, but, it is about dealing with life in a far more productive and positive way!

The holidays can be a challenge for folks in the best of circumstances. Throw in addiction struggles, bad economy, unemployment, seasonal affective disorder ...it's a bad mix.Comment

Why is everyone so down lately?
I have not been posting as much - not because I don't love you guys and want to talk - just because I have three kids in three different schools and a full time job that is driving me insane! Each kid has different Christmas things, etc. I have been sober now for 47 days and have no desire to drink, but I certainly have a desire for someone to give me another few hours in the day. I made a list of what I have to do this weekend....10 things and counting! I am getting stressed just thinking about it! Hope you are all well and I will try to pop in more!
