I shall accept the mantel of superwoman with pride.

I've just had a look in the fridge and I'm rather pleased to say that nearly everything we bought to eat has gone or in the process of going. Normally I'm chucking stuff out cos it's gone orff.
It could be worse, I could be filing.

        Hiya, Oney :l

Jeepers, woman - how did you manage that with all the kids in the vicinity?

JC: that's good news. The stats on the food that gets chucked at Christmas is absolutely shocking.

5 pm already! I have to fetch my son from holiday camp in a few minutes. Don't want to go out into the cold again:upset:. Although the ice is starting to melt. The River Seine in Paris is rising and overflowing it's banks in some areas of Paris. It has not done that in ages. Crazy weather everywhere! Be back later.

More like Danny De Vitto :H:H

Reason for the medication is that the infection has gone on to my chest and I was having a little difficulty with my breathing as I have asthma.

Augh! Feel better KTAB! Sending healing vibes your way! I used to get so sick like that every Christmas, then I realized I was allergic to the Christmas tree. Have had a fake one for 7 years now and it has almost totally eliminated the bronchitis I used to get. Of course having three kids doesn't stop me from getting every other thing they bring home. The house is like a petrie dish in the winter!

                              Greetings

NYE party preparations are officially under way!

We have been fairy-lit. We decided to buy proper outdoor ones (made for outdoor use, with a proper cable & plug, robust bulbs & a 2-year guarantee instead of those flimsy two-pronged thingies made in China with Ingrish printed on the box). Now to get it strung in the tree's branches . We got an 18m one, but you can buy extensions in 10m lengths should it be required. Why, you should ask, if it's only for one night? Simply because I don't intend removing them again Our previous set remained in use for almost 3 years and were lit every night - summer & winter. Some might say it's tacky, but we liked it

The best of all??? They remain constantly lit. The cubs can't even ATTEMPT to fiddle with the settings. The flashing and "running" ones make me feel as if I'm going to get an epilectic fit. Somehow, they were fine when I used to be drunk all the time...

We've also collected the samoosas which will be one of the pre-dinner snacks. They're stilll raw, so I'll have to fry them off an hour or so before the guests arrive.

Now I need to start thinking about the main course. The rest will follow from there. The options so far:

                              1. Extremely slow-roasted leg of lamb, with at least 4 -5 whole bulbs of garlic + loads of rosemary, which will be squuezed into the remaining pan juices after the fat has been skimmed off. Tender, moist & rich... Spiced with a special rub (family secret)

                              2. Cape Malay chicken curry with potatoes. More spicy than hot, made with brown meat pieces. Flavoured with stick cinnamon, bay leaves, whole cardamom, coriander (roasted seeds of), nutmeg, cumin, garlic, ginger, crushed red chilli and a few other choice ingredients. Also slow-cooked in the oven in a deep-bottomed cast iron pot.

                              3. BBQd whole sirloin (2 x 1.5kg pieces). By Friday, they would have been maturing in their vacuum-packs for over 3 weeks. IF the weather is nice, this will go down a treat, since it can be done outside where everybody will be gathered in any event. Can be hot work for me, though - standing in front of the fire. But it is most excellent after it has rested and you carve it into beautiful medium rare strips before plating. Served with a choice of sauces - Roquefort, maybe mushroom. Roast garlic? Onion marmalade (balsamic vinegar & raw sugar).

                              I'm salivating already...

Guess what the best part is??? Last year, I kinda dreaded NYE. This time round, I'm looking forward to it, and even more so being sober!
                              I'll do whatever it takes
