    The Battle

I found this poem I wrote from the first time I was here...it helped me then and I believe it will help me now and maybe help someone else too...again.

    A Way Out?

    I woke up this morning?
Looked in the mirror and asked myself.. why?
Can?t you do anything right? Do you even try?
Are you going to drink, and drink until you die?

    Cry?

Who are you? What are you doing? Hey! How did you get here?
Where are you going to end up? Can?t you talk? ?Only sneer?
Dreams once looked back so inspiring? now blurred by distress ,
In defeat I stand here looking?looking at this mess.

    Tears?

Whose eyes are those? They are not the same?
In years past they were bright, adventurous and clear
Now so empty, hurt filled and plain they appear.
Sockets of self loathing, showing little hope & much fear?

    Pain?

My mind used to inspire, plan and devise great things,
Now it is numb, painful and dopey.
I must find a way out, a way out my ears ring,
Is there no way I can win this, that I can throw off this dreaded coat?

    Hope?

Can anyone hear me, can any one help?
t-size: 13px;">Has anyone overcome this? Has anyone felt as I felt?
A way out is what I need ? A Way out to a new Land.
Please someone hear me? someone please give me a hand?

    Help?

There ARE others here! Others that have come out alive!
And One has risen to tell, to tell of the journey? she cried!
The Way Out, is this way, here it is she sighed
There is Hope, there is Help, from drink? you to save.

RJ, has shared The Way Out of the trap,
Freedom from dull eyes, groggy minds and self hate.
Unselfishly reaching out to all in this plight
My Way Out, this is it?Open those eyes ?it?s going to be OK?

Trying to get tools together to get started...get supplements ...need diversions to change the evenings that lead to drinking

        Great plan (and poem), Rocky.

List what those diversions are going to be this evening. Here are mine:

Exercise, even if it's just a long walk, during the day so I'm naturally tired but feeling healthy in the evening. I won't want to lose that feeling by drinking.
Rent a movie or buy a book everyone's talking about. Dive into it right after supper's cleared up.
Call a friend I neglected due to drinking and reconnect. Let him/her know about my relationship with alcohol and what I'm trying to do to shake it. If they offer to help, accept it.
Read through this thread to remind myself how bad "bad" is: https://www.mywayout.org/community/f1...ing-22609.html

        Nice to meet you!
