What I Accomplished Today Because I Did Not Drink
Well, because I didn't drink yesterday, I woke up with lots of energy today. I found myself at Church at 9:00 am with 30 or so others bringing in the New Year celebrating Mass. It was the first time I have ever been at Mass when there were so few present, but today was not Sunday, nor a Holy Day of Obligation (Mass attendance required for such). I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The silence in the Church after communion was awesome. I always try after Communion to find a moment of peace. I close my eyes and listen for the silence because I find peace there. Well, I would have missed that spiritual moment if I had been hungover.Dill
Dont forget, you can: start late, start over, be unsure, try and fail AND STILL SUCCEED!
If it is important to you, you will find a way. If not, you will find an excuse.

What I Accomplished Today Because I Did Not Drink
Two dog walks
A whole bunch of thank-you notes
un-decorated the tree
organized the back bedroom
went to my favorite store to return something and buy more
watched some interesting TV, including the Tournament of Roses parade
read part of a murder mystery
scooped dog poop in the back yard
I started a little notebook with all of these things written in it. The accomplishments are satisfying, and drinking is not at all. I plan to write in this notebook every day.
Rusty, thank you for this thread. This is what I find motivating for not drinking. My life is better without alcohol, since 9/1/12. My sobriety tool is the list at permalink 236 on the toolbox thread under monthly abstinance.

Scandy! You are strong. You can and you will! Just don't take that first drink!
Give yourself a break, take some time off from the hard work of drinking. Take a couple weeks off to start, get some rest, eat right and exercise. This is cliche...but take it One Day At A Time. I'm serious....it is very hard work drinking and functioning and drinking and functioning......take a little time off from the merry-go-round. See how it feels.

Scandinavian,
Please check in with us and let you know how you are doing. Sometimes we have to take not drinking one minute, or one hour at a time. You will feel so much better if you can stop.
Also, let us know what country you are in....there are people here from all over the world who can show you how to get to the Tool Box Thread. I don't know how to post the link....but you can do a search for it on MWO, or maybe Brightlite knows how to do that. Also, I'm sure being in a new country is very daunting and overwhelming....maybe someone here can give you options for socializing....AA is not my cup of tea personally, but is it something you're willing to try?
Bright-I loved your post about how you went to Zumba at night. My health club offers it and I might give it a try.
What I accomplished yesterday because I didn't drink:
1) Logged into MWO for 2 hours and got MORE helpful info. to support my goal to be AF.
2) Worked out for another 2 hours...2 more pounds lost in less than 2 days. 43 pounds to go.
3) Had an AF lunch with a new friend. Heavenly.
4) Watched the Rose Bowl parade and game....unhung...in front of my roaring fire.
5) Talked to my mom and my sister-in-law and remembered every word of our conversations. In my worst drinking days, I would forget that I had even called them
:stomper:
Thanks to all who posted....Bright, Chill, Mama Bear, Dill, Star, Pap, Star, Cyn, Paguy, Lav, Sunbeam, Techie....let's keep this going!

Rusty...
Oh you will love Zumba! It's...Salsa, Sweat and Smiles! (Also aerobic steps, a little belly dancing...you name it) An hour of dancing and I work up a great sweat! It goes by so quickly....it doesn't feel like a boring workout...that's why I keep doing it. You know what they say about sweat! It is the "Fountain of Youth"!
BTW, I know of at least 3 women in my Zumba class that have lost 30lbs or more just from Zumba, three times a week. (This is not an infomercial..ha ha) .....Anyway, try it...you might get hooked.
Everything I need is within me!

Today I put up the bracket I bought at the post-Christmas Sales for $99 instead of the regular $299. I mounted my tele on the bracket. I then went into the front garden and dug out the trenches for my limestone wall I'm going to be putting in over the next week. I could never have done any of that drinking.:h Mish :h
