MIDDLE AGED FEMALE WINO NOT DRINKING THIS MONTH

I'm still AF. For those of you who enjoyed wine with dinner ...what are you doing to avoid feeling ripped off @ dinner time? I find that I'm unable to sit and relax @ the table after dinner. I have to get up and get the heck away. Otherwise, I'm doing well.

Starting day ten. I've discovered that I can linger at the dinner table if I have reading material. A small step.

        Hello All,

        If I may join in....

Fennel - At the dinner table with other people who are drinking wine etc, I just try and focus on the fact it is MY choice, they want wine, I do not - rather than think "hey it's not fair, THEY get wine and I do not!"

I've found largely that when I tell people "No thanks, I don't drink" they have a real respect and even admiration for me which also helps me avoid the temptation of 'just one'.

I'm not sure I'll ever be a 'just one' person, as I DO enjoy the buzz too much and keep searching for it long after I have 'found it'. In drug-taking they call it 'Chasing the Dragon', I believe.

Reading has helped me however in everyday life - most often when I get into bed. Before I would lay awake thinking about having a drink to 'help me sleep' (yeah, right...)

However, that is me - Tipple if you can moderate then great - it is worth trying if you promise yourself to stop if you feel it is getting away from you.

Lastly, I have just discovered a non-AL beer that is ACTUALLY DRINKABLE! It's called Bavaria, brewed in Holland I believe and it doesn't have a nasty aftertaste such as Kaliber, et al. I do miss the ritual of cracking open a beer and watching the game, or after a hard day's work, so this way I can have my 'reward beer' without the AL.

Anyone else found any good non-AL beers/wines?

        EW

Thanks for your suggestions, English Writer. My issue at the dinner hour is that I used to pour my first glass of wine as I began preparing the evening meal. I continued to drink through out the meal and after. This is why I feel the need to get the heck away from the vicinity. I just don't know how to "relax" there yet without drink.

As for AF beers, I've never heard of "Bavaria". I have heard that O'doul's has a decent amber. The problem with many AF beers is that they are packaged in bottles that are not brown, hence they have the "skunkiness" that occurs when UV light hits the hop oils in the beer. I HATE skunky beer!

Thank goodness! I'll check it out - NA beers are a great way for me to have a beer without doing any damage.
