    Prayers for Australia

So sorry Queensland for the floods. I have fond memories of a wonderful holiday there.
We are all complaining here about ice and snow but it is nothing in comparison.

Is global warming the culprit or is it a repeat of the floods in 1974?

        Prayers for Australia

My thoughts and prayers are with you-who are either there or who have friends and family there. My children and I experienced a similar experience a few years ago with Hurricane Katrina. We came back to Europe as refugees after losing everything. Really-only the clothes on our backs. But thank God with our lives. I can't stress enough how much prayers and a kind word-not to mention any other help you can give-is so important at a time like this. The physical damage is horrible but also the psychological horror at witnessing such destruction of ones home, neighborhood.... and even loss of life. God be with you all-I am donating to the Red Cross here in France (who are sending money to Australia) who were just incredible during the disaster in New Orleans. expat xxx

This is just so typical of you Stirly and MWO-ers.......you are all such generous souls.:l
Thankyou so much for your sentiments.
We will do everything we can for each other, locally and nationally to 'keep on keeping on'
It takes a lot more than a bit of a shower to dampen the Aussie spirit.
If your 8 year old self met you, would they be proud?

Some of the flooded areas are reporting that it was like an "inland tsunami" when the waters bore down on them. So far, 13 lives have been lost and there are many more missing.
Dorothy Mackellar wrote a beautiful poem called "My Country" many years ago (worth Googling...it has pics and all), and part of it reads:
                          "I love a sunburned country.
                          A land of sweeping plains.
                          Of rugged mountain ranges,
                          Of droughts and flooding rains"

Australians do have an indomitable spirit, but many families must be despairing at all they have lost.
Stirly, your thread has touched my heart. Thank you, and thank you to everyone who has added their thoughts and prayers.
