    Vivitrol injection

Has anyone tried the Vivitrol injection or Naltrxone (oral) meds? How did you do on it and did you experience any bad side effects?:thanks:

I am using naltrexone now. It seems to be working as I am AF for several days including a weekend Yeah!. I am very agitated tonight and am trying to convince myself to go buy some wine. Took some kudzu rescue and will try to hold out. Since its 14 below maybe its better to stay warm and inside.

I don't take Naltrxone so I can't tell you anything.

You absolutey need to not get the wine, if at all possible. Stay on here for a while, instead of drinking, and read a lot of posts. That should help you get the crazing to go away. It helps!

      Vivitrol injection

I have heard from the inside medical community, that these injections work really well. I can't get them, because you have to sign up and register for them. I can't have that label on my name, it would ruin my career, and I'd never be able to obtain health insurance again. Isn't that sad?

Would that be private health insurance or the kind you get through a job that you could never get again?

          Hi Nina,
If you have the label of an alcoholic, then it would be very difficult to obtain private health insurance. If you are in a group plan from your employment, your label would hike up the group plans rates. If you hold a professional license, and have been treated for alcoholism, you must disclose that, and you could be urine tested randomly by the board that governs your license.

            Vivitrol

I believe Vivitrol's use is growing in popularity. Cephelon, the company who markets Vivitrol, is working aggressively to make this anti-craving medication available to physicians and their patients. There's quite a bit of excitement about it in the medical community and new studies should be available before too long to demonstrate its efficacy.

Here's a Vivitrol fact sheet that may be helpful. If your health care provider is new to this therapy but willing to help, you can ask they call the toll free number included in the "Support Program" section of this PDF. They can assess whether or not to use the company's "VIP" support program or pursue the open distribution method to obtain a prescription for you.

I've written a bit about Vivitrol on my blog and there's more detailed information linked in a number of articles there, as well.

None of this addresses the questions of disclosure, health insurance and other equally important issues. But I do think you should try to consider all options when and if you're ready to make a decision about medication.

Well guess I won't get health insurance in the future, but if I keep drinking I will only need to prepay the funeral expenses. Rather stay alive.

                  Suboxone IM

Hey, I am currently on Vivitrol monthly injection for opiod dependency, and has thus far proven highly effective. I have virtually no cravings for opiates or alcohol, and my mood is stable. Side effects are also minimal. I tried other prescriptions such as Suboxone and Subutex, and Vivitrol allows me to feel relativley sober and without a dependence. The only downside is the price.

I ordered Nal from River pharmacy and it was the most expensive of the drugs that I have bought from them...but it is very effective and the cost of not having it is far greater, for me.

                      I have used it

Works great with alcholoism want to try it in my narcotic addicts as Subutex is limited to 100 patients and this could actually be cheaper no 400 dollar drug screens no pill counts .

                        Vivitrol Research Study

Vivitrol works in a very interesting way. I've done some research myself:

"Vivitrol may prevent the excessive release of dopamine. This is a brain chemical that sends pleasure signals throughout your body. This is the “good feeling” associated with substance use. By blocking the “good feeling” from your senses, Vivitrol is believed to help cope with alcohol and opioid abuse."

This is where I got the info if you want to read more about it:

Vivitrol Research Study Dallas TX | The Holiner Psychiatric Group

I'm thinking of starting this treatment so if anyone has advice, please share.

                        Thanks
