Good to see you've found us. It's a good place to hang out, sometimes sad, sometimes happy but always worthwhile.

TF - Are you serious about the blood thing? I have offered but the Aussies won't accept mine as I may have Mad Cow Disease as I lived in the UK in the 80's. Annoys me alot as I had a big tranfusion in 1999 and promised the nurses I would "give it back."

I'm leaving the TV off until the 6.00 pm news. Watching it makes me feel helpless.

Evening all, and welcome to you My happy place, it's great to have you here.

Huge Condolences to our New Zealand cousin's. Missy, you are doing a terrific job there offering accomodation to folk's. I cannot imagine the distress, and stress people are feeling. I heard that the day before the earthquake, a 4% chance of one occurring in the near future was predicted! Geez, and when was the last one? September 4th? The C/Church mayor (Bob......) comes across on tele as a fairly smart, switched on bloke Missy? He appears to have as good a grasp on the whole setting up and deployment of rescue/emergency and support services as can be expected? I noticed this morning we are sending over about 140 emergency services worker's.

Hope IndividualNZ, Pink angel and our other N.Z. member's are ok, including Grinder's friend's and family. I read Zeppie's alright, and glad you and your's are too, Missy. Such a beautiful country and people doesn't deserve this.

Hello happy! Welcome! Know what you mean about the time zones - they do my head in sometimes too. As does having the opposite in terms of seasons.

Mr G - Bob Parker (Chch mayor) is a star. He became a bit of a national hero for how he handled last years earthquake (which happened in the middle of local body elections - he basically stopped campaigning to concentrate on earthquake recovery, and showed that he had his priorities right). He is very good at getting things done efficiently and effectively.

I too want to turn the radio and television off, but it is hard to escape. I sat in front of the TV last night weeping. I would like to be able to stick my head in the sand for a bit and think happy thoughts ...... The international aid effort is now coming through with hundreds of people arriving yesterday and today from Australia, Singapore and Japan. One of the collapsed buildings was an english language school for Japanese students.

Morning to you all and its so nice to say that.

Missy when the floods were here the tv was like a magnet we were just watching and crying - well me any - particularly when they were showing aerial shots of places that we knew our friends and family were. The recognition of familiar places and trying to work out how they got like that. Had not been a Premier Anna Bligh fan before but certainly her transparency throughout our event showed her in a different light. You can see Bob Parker in the same way. Have tv off as our kids were getting very distressed about some of the graphic reporting.
Off to give blood today, thanks for the suggestion TF. And CW, HP sauce is my fav particularly with hot chips, legacy of my 10 pound pom childhood. thanks undies for the welcome
