I agree with not looking at the news. Normally I ignore it as best I can but with all that's going on at the mo I've been watching. Its really depressing quite frankly.

My cousin and her family eventually evacuated from Cairns and are safe in a place called Mt. Isa. Its some kind of holiday mining thingy... didn't Google it. Don't know if they'll have a house to go back to as they live right beside the beach there but at least they're all OK.Glad to hear that they're safe, Zennie.

They are a very special breed our undie friends, They'll be waking soon so we can get the news straight from them.
I know that Jackie but how much can one province take? Feck they're complaining here because the temps will go down to a whole 5C and we're expecting heavy rain. Big fecking deal. Have you looked at what's happening weather-wise in the rest of the world???

Sorry again for being a downer tonight. I'm worried about Queensland and just very annoyed at the attitude from some other regions of our fair planet that are having bad weather but nothing catastrophic. Cyclone beats snow every time. Kinda like "Rock-paper-scissors". Okay - off to walk dear Freddie and then to bed. Wishing you all "sweet dreams".

Thanks for posting the updates about Australia Oney! We are not getting anything on the news about it over here. I do feel for the people in Egypt but 24 hour coverage (they keep re-playing the same scenes OVER AND OVER) is a bit much. It all comes down to the price of barrels of oil that gives top priority to "prime time".

Yeppers Zen! I "survived" Katrina-barely. Most of the people who died were not even killed by the actual hurricane but left to die in 40?c heat in putrid flooded conditions with no food or water. We were able to escape with the help of the French Consulate. We had to fly out of Atlanta to Paris. New Orleans airport was closed and people were trapped like rats. I am sure Australia will handle things differently!

I feel like a fecking news reader here as there's crap all on the BBC/Sky and I've been reading the links out to Mr JC.

The aftermath was horrific... disgraceful in fact... a totally bungled job. The government was making sure everyone knew they were on top of the blizzard up north just now... their track record is slightly tarnished to put it mildly.
The aftermath was horrible. I still have nightmares about it. I really thought we were going to die. It's only when we got back to Europe that we saw REAL coverage of what was happening. On the news, that is! And they are such hypocrites saying the Egyptians are only showing their people what they want them to see. Dateline eventually did a report on how things really were. My French friends could only say "That did not look like The United States Of America--but the third world". Disgraceful indeed.

I remember looking at the images on the news and could not believe it was America.

It was disgraceful Oney. I'll try to find the clip from Dateline and post it on facebook. And my comments are in no way directed at the American people!!! It was the government I was (am) angry at. And I think if people talked to just about anyone who lived through Katrina-American or otherwise-they would agree with me that things were handled in a horrible manner. But enough on that! My kids are in bed-and I should be too in a few minutes!:l Sweet dreams
