    Coping Mechanisms for the Holidays!

We made it thru dinner just fine....my neighbor is great at translating and making everyone feel that they are in the conversation.
I had a couple of interesting peruvian dishes - her mom made a dessert that is made out of purple corn (flour) and fruit and it looks like a mix between jello and pudding. They told me the name in spanish but now I can't remember.
The other thing was the dressing - just their family recipe but it was awesome - raisins, apples, celery, meat, peas...might sound a bit icky but it was soooo good.
Anyway, it was nice to be the visitor at someone eles's family gathering. No arguments, no fights, nice stories...my neighbor said grace-in spanish and english...good time was had by all A perfectly nice holiday celebration. Oh, and guess what- no alcohol was even offered - we had a choice of diet coke, sprite, crystal light, or water! Perfect.

      Coping Mechanisms for the Holidays!

      holiday drinking

Just finished Thanksgiving at my house with one husband, one daughter, one son in law, two very hyperactive grandchidren and one stepdaughter. All wonderful people but I must confess they seemed much more wonderful after I had a few drinks. Everything went well, before during and after dinner, but I was sneaking drinks to stay mellow, sociable, and playful with the kids. I wonder why the others can be that way on just 1 or 2 glasses of wine. Without it I feel edgy and irritable --- not on ordinary days, but on big family get together days. It just seems like so much more fun if I'm a little bit drunk.
My next challenge will be Christmas, with the same group plus another daughter and her kids.I would love to be able to enjoy it with minimal alcohol. Just ordered kudzu and glut. We'll see.
The holidays seem to me a very hard time to refrain from overdrinking.
      Do others agree?
      Bett.
