Antabuse helped keep me sober for a long time. I had no side effects. I no longer take it as I'm reasonably confident about not drinking. Anything that helps is worth a try.

If you have been given sedatives such as librium or valium etc then you will feel drowsy.

Hi Mariec, yes I took it when I started trying to be sober - it was about 2 weeks before christmas 2009 and I knew christmas was probably not going to be sober on my own, so I took it for about 3 weeks and it was a brilliant kickstart. I agree with lil.michelle tho - I stopped taking it about new year of that year and drank about 7-8 days later (can't remember exactly how many days now) and it hit me like a sledgehammer. My body temperature spiralled nearly out of control, my whole body went sort of purple and blotchy and I truly thought I was going to die, so yes, used correctly it can give you a great start but CAUTION!!!

Antabuse rocks, but be careful! I just posted a picture of myself after being off Anatabuse for ten days. (What happens if you drink too soon on Antabuse?) Headaches and rashes, even that long after. I can't IMAGINE anyone drinking on it! It's gotta be hell on earth.
