      For all Undies,

The butterfly is ever more blessed than other creatures of flight. Though all grace the heavens in the ecstacy of flight, the butterfly has known the drudgery of the crawl and the lonely confinement of the cocoon. His new found freedom is richer, wilder and more thrilling than life itself. This is the beauty of recovery.

Beag's, like Reg, i'd be delighted to lunch with you and Mr. Beag's, and/or entourage. Carlton is inner city, fairly central, and some good coffee and tucker to be had in many of the cafe's. Just pack yer bullet proof vest, cause i've just got this feeling that big Mick is about to go off on one. Just joking......

                Morning all,

Well, 'twas a working weekend for me as scheduled, but i've decided to chuck a frog. The weekend off will be very noice indeed. Yeaaah.

Aspy, i remember a couple of weeks ago you posted a thought about discussion of grog here, and whether there'e enough talk on the subject? I think that was your question? It's a good one.

For me, alcohol and it's very serious and real, destructive properties, are alway's at the forefront of my thinking when i post here. I probably appear a bit flippant sometimes, and i can be, but the horror and hell of al addiction is never far from my thought's. Maybe we could talk more about al, and various recovery method's, and we do from time to time, but i suppose the comaraderie here, and on other thread's, is worth it's weight in slab's of Bundy (ginger beer). I think one huge benefit of this sort of thread, is the social aspect, and just knowing we are not alone in the battle, and that there are thousand's of folk out there just like us. I see the discussion of, for example, family issues being discussed here, and chook shed's, and i see the strong drinking connection. 'I built a chook shed today'....better than drinking. 'I've got issues with family' No worries, let it out here amongst less judgemental types for an 'understanding you're a drinker', independent, supportive view. I sense the grog is a very strong underlying theme here, never far from the surface.

Edit: I would also add that this thread and the chit chat, contributes positively to people's sense of well being, and emotional balance, critical to successful recovery from the nightmare.

Anyway, i thought it was a fair question/point, and i reckon i've answered it in the most obvious, boring, and cyberspace wasting fashion, so apologies to those who'll be thinking.....'yes G-bloke, we know that you eeeedgit'.

look g-bloke, from someone who has been awake since 5.38 am, your posts are ALWAYS of excellent reading nature, words to help me out for sure. i agree with every bloody thing you've said in your first post this am, & i'm not just pissing in your pocket.
alcohol for me is still my "friend" apparently, much as i'm striving to see it as the poison it truly is, in many real ways responsible for why i am me today. which is not always a bad thing.
                  let me explain.
going to a 40th birthday luncheon on Sun : my best friend down here unfortunately is also a problem drinker, knows it but dunno if she's willing to do anything
bout it. when i mentioned that i would be restraining myself, her first response? "well you won't be much fun will you?" is that how i'm perceived? honestly? a pisshead woman who's hilarious if she has a few wines....oh great. but the fact that i'm witty, smart, reasonable on the eye when i scrub up, & the other things i should truly value, are not really important in a party situation are they, if you're not the party entertainment.
you know what the motto for living down here is?
" whatever you need to do to get thru". everyone , even teachers, nurses (no docs here tho, 'cept me!) drinks BUT i've failed to see that they can do it in moderation - surely not to the level of a bottle of wine a night. & starting to sneak in a few at lunchtime.
so my blinds have been removed, by being here.
hence if i seem clingy, or needy, or attention-seeking, just be aware that it is the polar opposite of my day-to-day life here.
now i'm dribbling shit aren't i. but i love this site. throb to you all.

Wonderful post, Mr G. Sometimes I venture out onto the main boards and ask about a problem but I prefer to be an Underoo. After my experiences as Spam, I want to stay here, not get into any arguements and enjoy the company of the wonderful people here.

I value the Underoos opinions as you are real people, living real lives and conquering AL. If a serious question is asked, then a serious answer is offered. On the other hand, we have a good laugh too.

Although we don't often talk about AL, we all know what we're here for.

                        Hi Undies

Great post Mr G. Sometimes its what's not said that gets you through, well for me anyway. The Underoos offer a sense of normality - er or as normal as chicken folk can get. Anyway its the thread i check on first and last everytime I'm here and like CW its where I get the most value.

Hello Beagle, nice to meet you too. Hope all are having a wonderful weekend, very relaxed here.

noice to meet you too happy.

i love the fact that we're funny buggars. as are the army folk. always reading stuff on these 2 threads makes me smile. i'm a bit hesitant about other threads as .....well, no reason really. everyone else has made me feel welcome also but i've read some pure & utter deconstructive bullshit that makes me cringe, so not inclined to put myself there.
i am quite comfy between here & the army. (now i haven't used that emoticon for a bit!)

Beags - here's another one for ya and another

I was going to respond in a D&M vein earlier this afternoon, but I'm buggered after a really busy day!

And I now have the most incredibly comprehensive emergency preparedness kit, except, would you believe for water and candles!!! We do actually have some tea lights and some (full) water containers buried somewhere at the back of the garage but we decided we would get some bigger ones, and the water in the water containers hasn't been replaced for about two years. However we discovered that all Wellington shops seem to have run out of both water containers and candles! Everywhere we went today we saw people buying big 100 litre containers to put things in. Guess I'm not he only one thinking it is better to be safe than sorry!

I contemplated buying a bottle of medicinal brandy, but I dont reckon it would last till an emergency :H

anyway undies, feeling like a girl guide here and full of sense and sensibility, so I'll keep my emoticons to myself instead of throwing them out willy nilly like you all deserve .....

no, but I did throw in a one-meal pack of curry spices to add to some rice for when we get sick of 2-minute noodles and cold baked beans
