Underoos and International Guests, March 2011

Back from college with another dilemma.

Got home, got in the house and the place STINKS of burning, electrical type burning, and the house is HOT. Usually by this time of day the house is chilled nicely. Have checked all the plugs, nothing. Then I went to put the air-con on and it's not working. There have been storms here, so I am assuming there's been a power surge or something and it's blown up the air-con. I've switched it off at the mains box and hope it's all going to be OK.

Hey Ficks, Thanks for telling me about your son. It's good to hear people's experiences.

      Evening all,

Careful any wiring running through your roof/ceiling doesn't ignite anything, i.e. insulation batts, C Dubbya. Get the whole house checked out a.s.a.p. 'electrical type burning' smell bad news.

      G'night folk's.

        Morning undie-pundies!

C Dubbya (love that Mr G!!) - good job on turning it off at the mains but you'll get it checked asap woncha?!

Good that you checked in Beagle! Rocks can be pretty lonely places to hide under .....

Weather has turned to shit and we have had lots of rain and wind this week. We've also had a couple of electricity outages and 2 (small) earthquakes. I haven't been sleeping at all well, and I realised this morning that I am quite on edge about the possibility of a major earthquake in Wellington. Unfortunately one has been predicted for March 20 - by a nutter, and a charlatan but he has had lots of media coverage, and while I cant take him seriously it still preys at the back of my mind. I've taken to carrying around my largest handbag and always making sure I always have cell phone, torch, spare batteries, i-pod (because I can get radio on it), water and a muesli bar and fruit. Anyway, this weekend's task is to replace all the food and water in our disaster recovery kit!

            Morning undies and all

Lotsa rain today. Mr H crook yesterday, woke up with a foot like a balloon, had twisted it a few days ago, so spent day xray, ct scans etc now have blood tests showing he was bitten by something bad, and it wasnt me. So he is home and up to no good.

Hope all is well for your house today CW, know how it feels with the young un too. It gets better and then I find the next one starts having his testing time. Missy hope your nutters not on the money about Wellington, have rellies thereabouts, mind you have a few nutters telling me that with our latest dose of rain we are headed for another mini flood, so I'm a bit like you, get together the practicalities and get on with it all.

Off to meditate then will have to do something about the disaster of my housework and the locusts left no food in the place either so boring day planned all round. Hope everyone has a great weekend and took Bridges advice and did something nice for self. My feet do look pretty.

....and next time do your OWN ironing *SLAM*

bloody men think that just because they've got an extra appendage it means they can't mutter mutter mutter

A couple of self enforced days away from the old cyber world, and I can't tell yuz how refreshed and productive I feel.
Have decided to reduce skulkage time. Won't effect my presence here, but beginning to suspect that I may have replaced one addiction with another lurking around various sites as I do.

This fat arse is not going to respond favourably to more cyber time.

C Doublya...I'm wondering if your landlord had the discount ceiling batts put in last year on the national scheme as I did back home ? In which case your agent needs to have them reinspected for safety. I will try to get hold of the 13 number I used to have them checked out....apparently electrical fires can smoulder up there for days !!

Also will Pm you later on with a little breakthough I've had with my own lad the last couple of days....I have a brand new kiddo on my hands

              Ok time to ride out.

Hope things are looking up Beags.

                Arvo all,

After ickty squillion half-arsed attempts at various projects this morning, I've decided to listen to my body and retreat to the cot. Don't know if it's the beginning of the lurgy but I'm feeling decidedly unchirpy. My little armies and handies and leggies are sore so I'm going to bed. Because I can.

Eww don't like the sound of that.....you prolly caught it from me. I should never come on line with the flu. One of those times when you just accept the crash and burnage and sleep....absolutely nought else for it....

Reading back, I am very impressed with the amount of folk who took up the roolly roolly challenge.

Now you've got to do it on a regular basis ............are you up for it ?

I know you must be feeling on edge Missy. I heard reports today that Aussie Academics have dusted off their earthquake data only to discover there are parts of Australia with similar activity - where the aftershocks are far worse than the original quake. So it seems now acknowledged that the strange weather events may continue and should be prepared for. The last series of quakes in Aus was in the 30's so nobody remembers them. Also, they occurred in country areas - nothing as hugely devastating as Christchurch so we have a false sense of security that they don't happen here. Sorry if that is a gloomy thought but I think a disaster recovery kit is a good idea no matter where you are on the planet right now.

After all, as I sit in my hammock, I remind myself that I am in one of the few houses spared in my area by fires that swept through here under 10 years ago. Am busy replanting natives but how smart is that???

                        Hiya Ficks,

Yep - got a good two hours of solid sleep in but then remembered I've got 'sponsibilities. I'm so glad they come when they're called so I locked them up five hours early. Yep - two very pissed off chooks. Too bad, so sad - better than being eaten by a fox I say.

Been reading the Wellington newspaper to keep up to speed with Missy. I wouldn't have the faintest on what to do during an earthquake. I'm pretty much up to speed with bushfires but earthquakes? No way.

Bridge - glad you posted today. I thought your Rooly Rooly Challenge might have taken you on a slow cruise to the Bahamas or something ...

Happy - nice bit of support you're giving Kaza. Lovely to see. You sure you didn't bite Mr.H?????

CDubbya - did you determine the source of the dirty brown smell? And I DO believe that's the correct technical term ...

Right now is another one of those times when I wish I could Dial-a-pizza or dial-a-anybloody-thing. Peanut butter sanger might have to do. Going to check out Fick's Taco Mince.

I couldn't agree more. We've done the crime. Now we have to do the time. Every house should have one.

Froglet I can't tell you how useful echinacea is. Especially if it is mixed with Vit C.
I'm pretty sure 'Healtheries' do one.
Great to treat a cold/flu......but AWESOME to prevent during C&F season. You will be less vulnerable out yonder without shared air - con etc, but worth a check out.

I spent 12 years working with folk with disabilities. It was brilliant, but personal hygene is a bit challenged and you can imagine the rate of droplet infection. One year I copped on to echinacea ...and it was astonishing the lowered rate of infection.

Thanks for the echinacea tip Bridge. I never (rarely) get colds/flu and maybe that is because I'm really not in contact with the usual germy culprits. Don't know what I've got and I'm absolutely certain it'll pass. No reason to whinge. Maybe I'm just trying to legitimise a bludge.

well i'm checking back in again as i've finally got the house to myself- but having been housebound for nearly 2 weeks now & the prospect of another 2 to go minimum ain't changing my mood at all, so i'll stay with crappy for now.
tawns, hope you're not coming down with yucky viral diseases.
sorry to worry all folks but black holes come & go don't they.

missy you poor woman you must be having a freakishly hellishly bad time over there - pack lots more muesli bars & water into your very large purse.
                                happy: nice to meet you.

was thinkin' this a.m (yes, unusual but occasionally happens).....about a possible Underoos meet-up in August? Hubby's birfday, might surprise him with a weekend in Melb for him to go to a footy match (Carlton vs the rest of the world) & i could meet up with some of you for lunch.....just a thought.
would some of you come down for a lunch? fly in? drive? that sort of caper.
if not 'nuff interest then that's fine. it'd be nice i think.
