    Rehab

Once again my life has spiralled out of control due to alcohol. I have decided that rehab is my only option. A friend was so worried about me yesterday that they sent the police to my house, who had to break down my door to get in as I was so out of it.
I'm so fed up and depressed. I have lost my job, am going to have to sell my house as I am so in debt. I am drinking more than ever. Wine has turned to vodka. I have drunk over 2 litres since wednsday. I am not drinking today and have terrible shakes. I have also badly damaged my wrist and knee falling down the stairs while drunk.
I just want it all to stop. This is last chance saloon for me.
Guess I just needed to tell someone who understands.

CYMRU - you may not see it now, but this may be your chance for a better life. So often it seems that we have to be "scared" into doing something pretty dramatic if we want to better our lives. I think that rehab is a super idea if you'll do it.

Do be sure to come here and post. We care and are here for you. Venting helps a lot. And, of course, be sure to read a lot here - as you know there's a wealth of helpful information.

    Sending you peace and strength,
    KG

                Rehab

Hi Cymru. I am sorry that you are in the terrible black hole this morning that we all know so well. It makes it worse when other people are involved doesnt it? When you waken up to the realities of a police visit then there is nowhere to hide in your mind. Mario started a thread in the long term abstainers section a while ago called "what was your rock bottom?" For many of us there our rock bottom involved 3rd parties eg families/friends/police/medical staff /employers etc becoming involved in one of our drinking binges. It seems to be a universal theme. It makes for a horrific morning after that only another alcoholic can understand but the good news is that many people have used their horrific nights from hell to launch themselves into real and lasting sobriety. I think our favourite nights are the ones where we can pull the curtains and drink safely with no apparent consequences the next morning. However I now believe that they are the most dangerous nights of all. Because nothing too terrible happened we think well why not do it again?I think that the more high functioning we are then the more likely we are to remain trapped. If the police become involved in your drinking and you lose your job then you fall out of your so called high functioning world and you are forced to stare the realities of alcoholism right in the eye. There is no where to hide in your mind and although that makes you want to jump off a cliff at the time so many people have said that that was the point where their lives started to improve. The darkest hour is always before the dawn type of thing. Maybe today is your darkest hour before your dawn? I hope cardiff works out for you. Keep posting today. Dont isolate yourself with the shame/horror/guilt.Every one of us have felt it. We are all here for you. Talk to us. ps. I will echo what rubywillow said. The prospect of rehab can seem so incredibly lonely. If you pm me your address I will write to you if you go and they allow it.
I am a sobriety tart. AA/Smart/RR philosophy, meds/diet/exercise/prayer,rabbbits feet/four leaf clovers/horseshoes. Yes please.I will have them all thank you very much.Bring them on

There is no way the bottle is going to be stronger than I am.

Thank you coalfire. I think I am going to have to drink something, if only to stop the shakes, which are getting worse.

Cy, I'm sorry you're having a rough go of it. You can change your course - you'll remember how success feels again. Try to eat; and drink loads of water - you know the drill. Maybe a hot soak in the bath will help.

                              Cymru,

Is there anyway you can get to a doctor now, before rehab, to get Librium, Ativan or some such med to keep you from having serious withdrawals?

Taking a drink to stop the shakes always led me right back to where I was.

Really hoping you get into rehab soon!!

                              Love,
