        Candles for Japan

I've been out of contact with civilisation for the past four days and only found out about this today. Off to light a candle ......

Such devastating loss. It makes our Christchurch quake seem tiny by comparison. But natural disasters and loss of life take their toll no matter what the scale.
So far, everyone we know in Japan is safe. My heart goes out to the rest.

Something that came to my mind early in this, but has now become 'newsworthy'. There is no looting in the areas affected. The 50 courageous workers are more than willing to make the sacrifice to save other livesl Merchants who have stock have lowered their prices. Vending machine owners have opened all their machines to the public. I watched news footage of people traveling everywhere, even on foot, searching for loved ones, and whatever anyone had, they shared, took the information. I'd be willing to bet there are few or no scams going to do work in the ravaged areas. What does this say about us, as a world community? All I can do, is pray. And I have been. The pictures, video, coming out is impossible for me to watch.
The government, whether they moved the right or wrong way, has been swift to try and help the survivors. But they aren't waiting to be saved, if possible. Or casting blame.
This is a horrible disaster, but man's humanity to man, is a beacon. Keep them in your thoughts, however you do it.

I also was touched by their gentile way of handling their circumstances. Lit my 2nd candle and prayed.
