    2 weeks af

Hi all feel like I am just getting my energy levels back. Laid in bed this morning thinking how I regualry woke up with a hangover and did not contribute to family life, well not even my onw life. Its wonderful not to feel like that any more.

I started my HRT this week so I hope that is going to help with my anxiety which is still way up. Yesterday I was as grumpy as hell with it, but instead of having a Friday night drink to calm myself down, we got our new bikes out at my suggestion and went for a cycle. As I was so grumpy I was moaning all the way it was cold, my bum hurt and gears are just a mystery to me !!!. But I came back smiling and relaxed.

I have had some interesting conversations with people this week which is helping the whole process considerably, so I am starting to see a glimmer of hope.

    Have a good weekend all.

Good for you BH. Well done for getting that bicycle out. I am almost 9 weeks AF so I can tell you it will get easier again in another 2 weeks and easier again 2 weeks after that.I do have some bad days but you start to learn that thats all they are-bad days.If you can hold on 24 or at the most 48 hours then your good mood is restored and you get an easy run again for another while.I think the trick is not to panic when you have a bad day. Im slowly starting to learn that.Good luck with your HRT. I have no experience of that but I hope it helps your anxiety.

BH - 2 weeks AF! you are a star :yougo:
Im so proud of you and especially for last nights, fridays were always a real killer for me but that instant of waking up on a saturday realizing your H/O free is priceless.....

That irritation you are feeling will soon go, its all part of the withdrawals. Next time you get grumpy try 10 deep breathes and make yourself smile....

Well done BH - Glad you didn't get THAT Friday feeling

Keep exercising - it will help with the endorphins flowing around the system. Also make sure you eat well - food really makes a massive difference to my mood personally. But maybe I'm just a 'guts'!

Bravo BH!!! :yougo: Good for you on the bike ride too. There is definitely something good about endorphin power. I am usually dragging my feet about exercise, but I ALWAYS feel good after I do it.

Keep on going one day at a time.

Thank you all, I love coming back on and seeing if anybody has replyed to a post. I agree exercise and healthy eating make a big contribution to recover and general well being. I have a busy month a head then I plan to research some meditation relaxation technics and a bit of sun would not go amiss ! roll on summer . Just a thought is there ant link between lack of sunshine and exceleration in alcohol consumption ? would make interesting reading .

There might be. Sunshine is a source of vitamin D and a lack of vitamin D can lead to anxiety and depression. What Are the Vitamin D Deficiency Symptoms?.
So yes some sunshine may not be a bad idea.

I believe there is a connection for me. For me I think it is lack of sunshine leads to depression, and depression was certainly connected to drinking in my past. (not sure which was the chicken and which was the egg!) What's funny is that in my case it is NOT Vit D as my levels always test very high in the normal range.

This winter I decided not to tan in the tanning bed (give my skin a break, etc.) I found myself in quite a funk. I started tanning again in late December and felt a bit better pretty quickly. So I do think that "light" is powerful.

If you think that causes issues for you in the winter, there are special lights you can get that help. If you want more info you might post a thread in the Holistic section about it. I believe there are people here who do some light therapy stuff in the winter time.

Also doing it for me. I got to stay sober for me.

Just consecrate on today and do what you can to remain sober for today and worry about staying sober tomorrow, tomorrow.

BH, well done on your two weeks, and what you said about family life struck a chord with me. When I was drinking I always felt a little detached, I wasn't giving 100%. I really see a difference in that now. Good luck with the HRT
