    Wine

There seems to be a recurring theme here with women and wine. I know that's not everyone's drink of choice, but it seems to be the majority. I wonder why? Are we kidding ourselves it's not as bad as hard liquor?

Yes, I think we definitely are. For me it seemed perfectly okay. I mean you see it everywhere, every show on tv......totally okay right? What a joke. Society has been duped into believing that AL is good. And wine is definitely okay. For celebrations and all special occasions....I wish they would show the darker and more honest side. They should have to list the side effects like they do with meds.....may cause hangovers, loss of friends, liver damage.....your life.

    Sending support :l

Wine sent me haywire WAY WAY WAY more than beer or vodka or anything really. I was scared to even look at the stuff. Why I dont know. Weird.

Anyway just for my own amusement I just googled wine makes you feel worse and look what I found.

Anyway it makes no difference to me now. An alkie is an alkie and booze is booze. If I was a normie this would be relevant but its not.It might be a good one to tell my normie friends though.

I think that the media really pumped up the health benefits of drinking wine. I know that I started to buy and drink mostly red wine because I thought it was healthier for me. That I was getting the buzz from the alcohol but given that red wine was somewhat healthy, it wasn't really that bad for me. I had a girlfriend that pratically forced herself to drink a small glass of red wine a night so that she could get the health benefits of it but she could only drink a small glass because she didn't like the taste. I however was not so lucky and eventually I could not stop myself from easily drinking the whole bottle. Wine, however, was a connecting experience between me and my friends, if I came over their house with a bottle of vodka everytime they may eventually start raising their eyebrows, but drinking wine with girlfriends has just become something that we do. We have always had some sort of alcohol in the mix, I think as we aged the type of alcohol that we drank together has changed. There is something about sharing a bottle of wine, something about it that is bonding.

Also, I noticed as I'm sure that you have, all the little things promoted toward mothers and wine; things like "Mommy's sippy cup" and all the other little pages and groups on facebook that mention wine and mothers with cute little sayings.

I feel a little bit like I got seduced by wine-the comfort, the having it with a nice meal, feeling that it wasn't that bad to be drinking it. I let my guard down with the wine and it crept right in.

The feeling I get from drinking wine is much more pleasurable to me for some reason. I agree the girlfriend bonding with a bottle (or two) of wine is so common. Everybody does it. I'm pretty sure there are others I know who secretly have the same problem.

No other alcohol appeals to me the way white wine does/did. There are 3 different beers in our fridge plus umpteen bottles of spirits and port in the cupboard which have been there for years - I could not care less about them and have never been tempted to drink them but white wine - just so very addictive for me. Could not leave it alone. Had to drink the whole lot as quickly as I could!!!

It really doesn't matter what you drink imo. If it causes you trouble then you need to address why and to do that you need to starve those receptors that love alcohol.

Start by doing what's necessary, then what's possible and suddenly you are doing the impossible.

Hi akgirl and all. Your remark immediately made me think of this. I'm not sure who wrote it, but I thought it was funny and telling:

Do you have feelings of inadequacy?
                      Do you suffer from shyness?
Do you sometimes wish you were more assertive?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist about Chardonnay.

Chardonnay is the safe, natural way to feel better and more confident about yourself and your actions. Chardonnay can help ease you out of your shyness and let you tell the world that you are ready and willing to do just about anything.

Chardonnay may not be right for everyone. Women who are pregnant or nursing should not use Chardonnay. However, women who wouldn?t mind nursing or becoming pregnant are encouraged to try it.

Side effects may include dizziness, nausea, vomiting, incarceration, erotic lustfulness, loss of motor control, loss of clothing, loss of money, loss of virginity, delusions of grandeur, table dancing, headaches, dehydration, dry mouth, and a desire to sing Karaoke and play all-night rounds of Strip Poker, Truth or Dare and naked Twister.

                      WARNINGS:
The consumption of Chardonnay may make you think you are whispering when you are not.

The consumption of Chardonnay may cause you to tell your friends over and over again that you love them.

The consumption of Chardonnay may cause you to think you can sing.

The consumption of Chardonnay may lead you to believe that ex-lovers are really dying for you to call/text them at four o?clock in the morning.

The consumption of Chardonnay may make you think you can logically converse with members of the opposite sex without spitting.

The consumption of Chardonnay may create the illusion that you are tougher, smarter, faster and better looking then most people.

So go ahead and try it?.$3 a bottle works the same as $300 a bottle so why pay more!

Absolutely. I notice it so much more since I stopped drinking. Our corner "country store" carries a wine with the label "Mommy's Time Out". There's a sign next to the display that says, "Relax, Mom! You deserve a break!" Pisses me off every time I think of it. I've considered going in with a little sign to tack up next to it that says, "...So try yoga, taking a nice long walk, or a warm bath. Alcohol consumption leads to depression and anxiety."

Kelli - great thread! I too was a wine drinker - hated the taste of beer and couldn't quite stomach any other kind of liquor. And after all, wine is so romanticized everywhere! On TV, even a lot of magazines and recipe books include the right "type" of wine to go with a certain meal.

I agree as well - the "mommy's time out" is just ridiculous and certainly sends the wrong message.

I have seen the "chardonnay" thing before - sent to me as a joke email by one of my friends. Where before I would have laughed at it, it now gives some deeper meaning to me as it's not quite as funny as it used to be.
