The chardonnay thing had me "seeing" myself doing all of those things. That's not so funny. I think it's easier to lie to ourselves when it's "just" wine.

Wine
Maybe "funny" wasn't the right word for me to use. "Ironic" ? I used Chardonnay for those "medicinal" purposes for years. I'm so glad not to do that now. But it's amazing how often the "glass of wine" gets mentioned or suggested among the women I know. I hear the idea floated or the longing mentioned at at Cub Scout meetings, Little League baseball games, and all the time on Facebook...So far, I've pretty much remained silent on the subject. I guess I fear seeming judgmental or self-righteous. Maybe one approach, when someone says "Oh my god, I'm so stressed out, I can't wait to have a glass of wine!" would be to say, "that never worked for me...might have made me less stressed for a bit, but then I'd feel so much worse later!" or, when invited to have a glass: "you go ahead...I'm drinking herbal tea these days.""When she enjoyed her drinking she couldn't control it, and when she controlled it, she couldn't enjoy it." (from The Big Book)
