You know, if I was up at your hours, I'd always be here. You guys have MY kind of sense of humor and wisdom. Can't help but crack up over some of your expressions and place names. I truly believe Undies and Southern Mountaineers would have SO much in common. Accents are diff, but I truly understand you all. Keep up this thread, its SO refreshing!

God morning everyone! Beautiful day here and I've just taken my hot cross bun dough out of the fridge. By the time I've been down to the shop for the paper it will be ready for its next kneading, and then after I've read the paper and maybe had a bath, they'l be ready for cooking. Such are the things that perfect SAturday mornings are made of!!!

Last nights convo was MWO at its very best, and I feel so grateful to be part of this community.

My dearest Reg :l I highly recommend a book called "Unstuck" by James Gordon, which I credit for having helped me get out of my big and deeply dug hole last year. He is a Dr and a Psychistrist and has incredibly balanced views around issues related to depression and drugs. He argues that depression does have a biological component to it, but that only in the most extreme cases should it be seen as a "disease". His views on use on anti-depressants are very complex and I wont attempt to summarize them here, but they are based on a careful consideration of the scientific evidence. After reading it, and also after discussion with my Dr, I decided to go back onto them as a way of getting to the point where I was sufficiently motivated to do all the other things I needed to do, but strictly limited the amount of timeI would stay on them for.

Most importantly Gordon argues that depression can be an important signal that we are unhappy with aspects of our lives, and that taking drugs stops us from being in touch with those feelings of dis-satisfaction and taking steps to address them. He also provides quite a lot of evidence about the other things that can help to address the biological imbalances associated with depression, and argues that no one thing on its own is likely to make a difference. One of the things I like best is that he adopts what he calls an empowerment model of depression - ie; people are the experts on themselves and their bodies, and that we should be encouraging people to work out their own best solutions. The end goal is not to "get over" the depression, but rather to live a full and satisfying life.

So he suggests a whole combination of things that people can put in place to help themselves, including music, art, meditation, good nutrition, exercise, having a "spirit guide", spiritual practices etc etc. There is nothing new there, and no magic bullet, but I am drawn to his argument that living a full life includes the need to to address body, mind and spirit. My own little package that I have been (mostly!) putting in place for the last six months is:
                • better eating - religiously eating my 5+ a day, and I've also cut out gluten at several points. Also the usual bunch of supps!
                • exercise - and for me this means lots of it!
                • Making sure I get time to myself every day just to chil out and do nothingMusic (my ukulele playing doesn't really compare with your's and Mr G's talents, but it works for me )Checking in with MWO every day ........

any way my friends, the paper and the hot cross buns are calling. See you later alligators, don't forget the toilet paper ...........

Morning Missy and all to come,

What a lovely thread this is. A soft place to land.

Bought a bit of kit yesterday which will enable me to transfer ancient Kodak slides to disc. This will be fun. 30-year old memories of London to Kathmandu Hippy Trail pics.

I wish you all a calm weekend.

                      Morning all,

                      Safe travel's Reggie!
                      Bought the toilet paper yesty.
You'll have a lot of fun with that converting doovalakky TF.
That book sounds like a useful read Missy, and you sound like you're giving yourself the best foundation for sobriety that you can. Me too!

Would've popped in last night, but i got caught up over on Ktab's facebook page. It was one thing after another. First, i was waylaid with a 2 hour long download of Tabbers' excellent personal Oscar Wilde collection, then Mario dropped by, and then Liam Neeson stayed for a bit. So i got to bed around 4. Then of course i had Delta on the blower first thing this morning giving me the news that she's broken up with that boofhead Brian. Good one Delta! x

Grey, dull sky's here at the moment, but just above them, are blue one's.

Gonna have a noice long bath. Ooroo.

... and another reason I throb Undies is because they don't involve themselves in other people's barneys.

Hope you haven't gone wrinkly, MrG.

Has there been another one? I rarely venture outside our comfortable, padded thread. It can be scary out there.
