    Relapse prevention.

I am on day 66AF and my reading interests are starting to change. I have started to look at relapse prevention articles for the first time. There were a few articles in particular that I thought were quite good. They really help you to look closely at the reasons why you might pick up a drink again. I thought that I would share them here on MWO

    1 Alcoholism Relapse Prevention Strategies

2 The Pathways to Sobriety Workbook - Google Books

3 How to Identify Alcoholism Relapse Triggers | eHow.com

4 Here is one from MWO. I cant believe it took me so long to find this thread. https://www.mywayout.org/community/f4...ion-42989.html
I will keep reading. If I see any more that I think stand out I will add them in.

Thanks for this Coal, just what I needed today. I caved yesterday after a very stressful meeting. I'm going to use these to avoid jumping back in the bottle just cause I'm stressed.

              Relapse prevention.

Im sorry you relapsed AKgirl. Stress is a killer. Im glad you are willing to try again. My favourite term is from the first link-"permission thoughts". I had never heard that term before.
A few days ago I had a really bad day. I thought that I was weeks past the physical cravings stage but they came back with a bang from breakfast to bedtime which is weird as I never drank in the mornings.
Anyway there was worse to come. I started to look at the idea of relapse. I was going to be in the house on my own for 24 hours and I got the little idea that no one would know. Just one relapse, have the release and start again. I know that this sounds stupid when you see it written down but I was in the grip of that thinking. You know when you watch a woman having labour pains? A big pain will come that will have her bent double then she will get a break and then the next wave hits her.Well thats what it was like inside my brain. I would have a big wave of thought telling me to drink then I would have 5 minutes of sanity then another big wave would come and convince me again that It was a good idea. When the waves hit it really felt like it was an excellent idea and thats what was so scary. Eventually I went to bed with some recovery literature which I haven't done for weeks. The next day was every bit as bad. Its all over now thank God and I am having 2 easy days now. I never knew what those thoughts were called but now I know that they are called permission thoughts and the first article shows how you get them. I thought that they just come from nowhere but they don't. If you trace them back then you will find a trigger and when I mapped the route that the article showed me then I realised what was behind it. My partner had gone away and a plan I had made fell through. It was being alone on my drinking sofa for too long that had started it. I am going to keep that article very close and when I get permission thoughts then I am going to try and work through it the way it suggests. I hope it helps me. Its worth a shot.
