Happy Mothers Day everyone, whether you are one, you,ve got one, or you just act like one sometimes.
Sunshine I know what you mean by the 'fitting in at school' analogy, and I had that little experience too.
In this instance though, it's more like working for an organisation with which I can't align myself.
Much the same thing I suppose
Yes the chameleon thing I totally get too Happy. I'm very pleased with my decision though.Feel like I've grown up a bit or summat.
Reggie, I,d love to indulge your dying wish, but unfortunately you couldn't have picked two less 'marrying type' people. :HIf your 8 year old self met you, would they be proud?

Arvo all - back from my dinner last night. It was a fair way from home so I opted to stay in motel for the night. Now ... my alternate plating predictions were not 100%. I stuffed up on the Desserts. Soup: Pumpkin/Minestrone. Tick. Mains: Lamb/Chicken. Tick. Dessert: Pavlova/Sticky Date Pud. Fail on the Sticky Date.
So, on reading back - Straw bale? I throb straw bale like you wouldn't believe. Go f'rit, Mr.HP!!!!
Reggie - you shat yourself to death yet?
Techie - please spare me. I promise to be good.
Briddge - sorry x-posted ... couldn't ya just shack up?
MrG - Had a lovely Mothers Day. The girls gave me two eggs and Wong parked a dead mouse on my door mat. Wilson wanted food but asked nicely. O'Reilley hasn't even got up yet. Spike is missing (probably having M.Day at his 'other' home) and I haven't seen The Baby yet. Did get a great phone call from one of my adopted double-de facto youngies.
So, I guess the issue I'm dealing with and haven't been prepared to go public on, is the issue of the dreaded fags. This is turning out to be hideously difficult. Maybe nicotine is more addictive than alcohol? Maybe it's because I've been smoking for much longer than I've been drinking. Maybe I'm just a weak-willed wuss but fusk, this is hard. I can't even seem to rack up 24-hours NF. So ... methinks a more concerted plan should be put in train. Cold turkey isn't cutting it for me right now.
Hope all Mothers are having a wonderful day.

No. Can't shack up. I like sleeping like a dog.
Re fags I think it depends on the perp.
I gave em up 22 years ago. Wasn't that hard, and very soon afterwards I turned into a trully hypocritical smoke hater. Giving up the piss is without a doubt the hardest thing I have ever done. Smokes or turps, they're either or both going to kill us.
What else can you get into your tool kit ? Gum? Patches ?
Do what it takes I reckon. If your 8 year old self met you, would they be proud?

I need an attitude adjustment.
When I was concerned about the piss, I never once considered my liver. My brain was of importance. I HATED forgetting stuff. Thought I was going mad.
When concerned re the fags, I never consider lung cancer, blindness, gangrene etc. All I think about is the ridiculous blowing of $100pw.
I bit the bullet a year+ ago and had my first EVER proper physical. Told the doc everything i.e. I smoked and once drank a lot and wanted an All-Bells-and-Whistles check-up. So we did blood/poo etc etc. Apart from a cholesterol re-testing (since confirmed ok), nothing untoward showed up.
I'm not likely to insist on getting a second opinion.
Ego might work in my favour. At the dinner last night was a woman with whom I used to go and have sneaky puffs on various balconies. She told me she quit a year ago. So the Frog brain says ... well if SHE can do it ...

Hey Roos,
Have been a bit absent. Went to a work PJ party last night. I had decided I was going to let myself drink and I was quite looking forward to watching all the hard word so far washing down the buzzy drain. So I started with soda, switched to water, and then just said to hell with drinking. I will feel so much better in the morning than anyone here. Mind you they were all about 7 drinks in at this time. I stayed til about 1am, and woke up nice and sober this morning. I also sat down and told my husband what I was thinking about before I went to the party so he knew. He did not want me to drink, but said it was ultimately my decision. I think talking about it helped even if I didn't like his attitude.
Happy mothers day to all the lovely parents on this thread.
TF, in regards to nicotine, my hubbs is crazy addicted. He acts like:stomper: this if he's trying to quit for the first 2 weeks. He is just one of those people that it takes a hold and won't let go come hell or high water. He is again quitting. I know if he can you can.

I think if we all 'cared' about our health for the eight reason this would be a very empty thread/site.
There's just something different about our wiring. Spose we just have to work around it.
I like that a lot Sunshine. You've worked your way backwards through it. I could never have done that. Seems like you really are committed...even more than you thought ?If your 8 year old self met you, would they be proud?

I've got a big kennel out the back you could use. :H
I reckon smokes are the hardest to give up Tawny. The boffin's say it might be the hardest addiction to quit, and i agree. But, it can be done. You've got to want it more than anything, and have some activities/distraction's lined up beforehand, to get through the day with the minimum stress possible. I've never read Allan Carr's book's, but i hear he's got one on the 'easy way giving up smoking' or similar title, like his easy way to stop drinking book, which many folk's find useful. I stopped almost 20 yrs. ago, after many attempt's, but finally got sick of it, and just kept going. I had to stop drinking at the time too, on all attempts, as for me the 2 went hand in hand for whatever reason. Have a crack at it, and not attaching too much importance to it, quiet achiever style, helped me a bit. Also, i find much of our 'Toolbox' thread/info applies to nicotine addiction. Getting rid of the cravings was less of a battle for me, than modifying my routines, daily habit's and action's, which means adjusting our thinking.
