Whats the biggest things achieved from nor drinking ?
Hi T.I.N,
I stopped for awhile and started writing a screenplay. I had ten pages before drinking again. I plan to come off asap and get my 120 pages because I know I can't finish it U.I.
The world is your oyster....

Whats the biggest things achieved from nor drinking ?
Hi time. I am far more fiscally responsible when sober. I am far healthier now - by a LONG shot than where I was at the end of my drinking. But I think the most exciting change to me is that ALL of life is in front of me now. Not just a very very narrow and ever shrinking life with my bottle. In the end, all I did was get up in the morning and suffer through whatever HAD to be done before the drinking could start. And then I made an effort to not drive anywhere while drinking so I was imprisoned in my house by my own hand. (although I'm not kidding myself on that front - I took many, many risks with my own life and the lives of others by drinking and driving!).
I am no longer severely limited like that. The world is my oyster. I am free to come and go at all hours of the day or night. I am free to go try all manner of new things. I'm not limited by being too drunk, or by already having had "a" drink, or whatever. I've got my wits about me all day.
THAT is a huge blessing for me.
Strength and hope to you in your search for recovery.

Drinking is like a ride that somebody else designed that you can't get off of, that occupies all your time and energy and doesn't leave room for anything else*.
Not drinking is like being the designer of rides for yourself that you can choose to ride at will or not at all, and they get better over time instead of worse.
(*)edit, forgot to add: "and because you can't get off it eventually malfunctions and kills you".

Since i stopped drinking everything in my life has just got better.
My personality has changed, much more happier,
More financially secure,
Not as controlling,
More easy going,
Much more healthy & fitter, lost over 7 stone.
Go on much more foreign holidays than ever before,
My relationships with my children is much better,
My relationship with my partner is excellent,
Over all my relationship with most people is so much improved,
Personally I dont have any downs since I stopped drinking there is not one bit of it I miss, including the social scenes as I have a much better one now and I am still in control of myself,
I could go on & on for me its the best decision in my life I have made.

I gained happiness...I never had it before I stopped, not even as a child, I don't think I understood what it was really...
But to be happily content with your little lot in life is surely a grand thing."It's not your job to like me, it's mine!"

The Time is Now, great thread idea, it is always great to share these positive aspects. I will add a few.
- being a good role model to my children
- not drinking and driving
- removing the golden arrow from my wife's arsenal when we argue over something
- enjoying the journey of life, not just being focused on the destination of getting to some booze
- better shape physically
- mental functioning so much better
- better performance at work
- more confidance
- more self esteem
I could go on and on, take care,

I'm living now instead of just exsisting.
I'm happy now instead of sad
I laugh now instead of cry
I can deal with lifes problems and still smile, instead of drowning in them and making them 10000 times worse then they really are.
I love waking up each day instead of wishing i wouldn't.
I'm a GREAT mummy now instead of a shit one who as hard as it is to admit, put drink before my 2 babies welfare.
I'm healthy, i'm fit, i haven't had to diet at all.
All in all, i love to live and i live to love...
ps.. i haven't had ONE fight with my hubby since quitting the stuff 7 months ago (or more.. can't memeber)

I am Cymru. I am an alcoholic. Im working every day to maintain my sobriety and change my outlook for my family, friends and most importantly myself. I have had issues with the past and present, and sometimes let things get to me. I take a step back, think it through, write things down and let it go. I go to bed with a clear concience I dont hold any resentment today. I have no money, no job and and alot of debt. Im dealing with it. Im happy to be me and with my lot. I can leave my house with my head held high, not hiding.
I couldnt of said any of that 9 weeks agoTo Infinity And Beyond!!

Clarity - I love having a clear mind every day instead of feeling like I'm living in a fog. That's my favourite part.Every day is a day to start over and remember that I am powerless over my addiction. I will no longer give the BEAST any power over me - he can go straight to hell.
