Not sure I agree, we all do things we shouldnt but taking that leap is an agreement with ourselves not to do so.
And yep 25 yrs down the road, t'without a doubt I think if we had a problem in the first place to paraphrase Gerry Adam's 'it's not gone away you know'
Well thats a feckin sobering thought if ever there was one......
JackieClaire;1116452 wrote: I can only speak for me but it wasn't a giant leap to acceptance just a gradual thought process that lead me to accepting I can never drink safely again. I have a feeling it was my time. I could no longer go on living the life I was, it was no life. Just eating, breathing and drinking.
Just keep asking yourself questions,KT, Keep asking us questions. It's good to reassess where we were and where we're going.
Having a bit of a ramble here meself.

Maybe its the fact of our no longer wishing to experience of the consequences of our actions that is the key, not the acceptance that there is a problem.Ethanol is a toxic chemical, why would I drink it?

Well you can recognise you are an alcoholic and decide to keep drinking knowing you are doing harm etc etc...many people do that.
Accepting you can never drink again means you choose life and decide that by eliminating alcohol from your life, you are deciding your life is more important than the booze. I agree a lot of people never get here because their alcoholism has progressed so far that NOTHING is more important than the drink and they cannot live without it.
Thats why you have alcoholics who don't drink and those who keep on going down the destructive path, I think a lot realise that they cannot drink safely but continue to do so regardless....thats alcoholism."It's not your job to like me, it's mine!"
