    Day 5

Day five and I am starting to feel better. My cold is starting to go away. Today is also the day that if I were to have a couple of drinks, that today would be the day. But I won't drink. First off, I still have the cold. Drinking won't help it at all. Secondly and finally, AL will just make me feel bad in the morning and I will feel disappointed in failing to stay sober.
I quit drinking on March 8, 2020. Taking it One Day At A Time and no more taking my quit for granted.

Also doing it for me. I got to stay sober for me.

Just consecrate on today and do what you can to remain sober for today and worry about staying sober tomorrow, tomorrow.

      Day 5

Hi Drifty, stay strong, you can do it. You are correct in writing that drinking will only make you feel bad. Our brain plays a terrible game with us, it "wants" the booze, but we know that it will only make things worse. This battle is not easy. Keep adding those days together. For me, over time, I did gain a proper perspective on this mental problem, always keeping a great respect for the cunning alcohol.

Remember you can urge surf, the cravings when they come. Think of the urge to drink as a wave, and surf it. Waves come in all sizes, shapes, and lengths, BUT, they all pass. The urge will pass, if you hold fast. I used to have to find a private place, and close my eyes, and mentally go through this urge surfing process, it helped me to gain a little power over the craving.

      Keep adding those days together.

        WOW, this is GREAT advice.

I guess thats what was happening last night. We were watching a movie and a guy was holding a bottle of whiskey and pouring shots.....and for some reason.....it looked really really REALLY good.

But I told myself that I dont drink anymore, and soon forgot about the urge.....now I will just scream out COWABUNGA when my urges hit! LOL

          COWABUNGA!!! I love that!

My AA sponsee has a technique for stopping the stinkin' thinkin' in it's tracks. She mentally yells "SKUNKFARTS" to herself. Then changes the channel. :H

Hey - whatever works to change the channel, right?

Drifty, you are wise to recognize the signals of this time frame - when we stop feeling so much pain of the consequences, and start up with the "I'm not really that bad" thinking. It's just your brain trying to get a fix. COWABUNGA SKUNKFARTS to that!
