hiya expat - back at uni now, it's good, but I've had to get used to listening again instead of speaking - quite difficult for me

No-it's not easy! But you'll be teaching "teens"??? If I understood from some of your earlier posts.

Well, I've taught the "little ones" up till the age of twelve or so. But now I'm teaching "English as a foreign language". Had a very bad experience with the kids aged 12 and up.

I saw some really troubled kids at the school I was at but did not have any in my classes. I take my hat off to the teachers that deal with them everyday.

And I say that from a point of view probably differently from the way you'll be teaching. With me--It was with French youths who did not want to learn English. They could be quite shitty!

One class I observed it took all the class just to get the students to sit in their seats.

One child--about 15 yrs old or so--who was easily over one meter eighty-told me to fec,k off! I tried to reason with him but could just not get through. He was harrasing the other kids and when I told him (time after time to stop) he would not--I was forced to call the director. I hated that. I wanted to help him but just did not feel able. He said "Fuck English--I'm going to win the lotto!" I am now helping "adults" with their English. I would never have a job if I went back home!

Yes because they are adults! And they know they need English for todays business world! But there is a huge need for the teen students. I wish you luck.
