    depictions of alcoholics

I remember reading a post in the recent past where somebody talked about the depiction of alcoholism in Coronation Street and how this was apparently a very accurate representation. I started watching this show, In Plain Sight, and the main character is a female United States Marshall whose mother suffers from alcoholism. I found the depiction very believable. I don't know how much all this pop culture actually helps people with drink problems but sometimes it's good to see our pain illuminated. Anyway, just wanted to post this if anybody was interested in checking it out. It's available on dvd and I think ITV screens it occasionally.

Medic, thanks for bringing this to our attention, I will look for that episode. I have seen a few night time shows in the past year or so, where they also have shown alcoholism for what it truly is. It was not glorified, or cliche. The characters were suffering a great deal, and living lives full of pain and sorrow. They even found a way to start battling, and begin to live sober. The process was not depicted as easy. Let's hope that our youth continue to receive these realistic representations. Of course the addiction show, is very effective and real.
