It's gonna feel like well over 100 here today! At least one good thing. X
It will take you some time but you will meet people more suited to your personality. Just have some patience. I found it difficult to fit in here when we first moved because most older women were very nosey about the "foreigner" who had moved into the neighbourhood. The first women I met were our landlady and her friends and they were always asking me where I got something from and how much I paid for it. The landlady would even make surprise visits at 8 a.m. and ask me why I was still in my dressing gown or casually walk into the bathroom to see if the toilet bowl was clean or stoop to look under a table to see if there were dust bunnies or anything. Used to drive me nuts especially as I didn't have a good enough command of the language to tell her that she was being intrusive and insulting with her behavior. Finally made some friends with women my own age and then things were better. Patience, dear girl, patience. You've only just moved over. Pick your friends and leave those who don't suit you out of your circle. They're not worth your time.

As for the weather - it's about 90F here right now but very windy. I took a short trip to the beach but didn't stay because the sand was blowing in my hair and eyes and annoying me and the water was too choppy to swim.

Mario - I kind of figured you were. Seems you go there a lot...

Hiya Inchy! Just throwing out a couple of ideas for your art project. Don't really know what the assignment is exactly but here ya go! The first photo is "Les Tours Nuages" architect Emile Aillaud. Urban planning gone wrong. The skyscraper council flats really just breed crime and violence by stacking the poor on top of each other like rats. Horrible place! I used to have to cross through there for a job last year. And on a happier note-the next photo is of a shotgun house-popular in the American Deep South. Elvis Presley was born in one. Lots of history in these little houses and they are quite charming. And probably no one else in your class will choose either of these. Just some ideas! Good luck!MG]http://i1227.photobucket.com/albums/ee421/expateileen3/architecture%20new%20and%20old/124030063681.jpg[/IMG]

Hi Expatty. I'm quoting this cause I saw where the problem was and the first photo didn't show up. They don't call me the PB Tart for nothing!!!:H:H

          How's your day going??

P.S. Those skyscraper things are butt ugly.

OOps! Sorry. These are Les Tours Nuage-just outside of Paris. Or the Cloud Towers. The poverty and misery here is unbelievable. A place the tourists never see.

Aren't they ugly Stirls? And both architectual styles were designed for the poor! Hmmm! Maybe she could do a comparison of different types of housing and which ones were a success-or not! :H

They're an eye-sore as far as I'm concerned. Apparently they're painted to look like clouds in the sky. It reminds me more of military camouflage wear. Terrible to look at and probably depressing to live in since they're for low-income housing. Not much in the way of more than just the essentials I bet..

Stirly-they are dirty, cheaply built (1970's) and the people who live there seem miserable. Most of the residents (if not all) are non-French. It's like another world. Just piled on top of each other to be forgotten.
My baby is back! We are going out for a walk in a few minutes. He's so happy to be home. I'm happy too! I'll be bacinabit. By the way-loved to hear about Canada from you and Molly! I'd love to go back. I've only been to Quebec though.

I just went and visited the area on Google Street View. Part of the subdivision borders on the Nanterre Park. But the other side is like you said - not a nice place to be.

Hug the little guy til his bones crack.:H You'll have such a nice walk and talk. See you later.:happyheart:

Hoping Molly has some pictures to post from her vacation...
