    Detox in UK and Diazepam

    Hi Sofia,
Thanks so much for the update. I'm absolutely fascinated by your doctor's take on detoxing. I'm still a bit puzzled by him wanting to keep you on diazapam for so long and really glad you're going to see your regular doctor.

And I had another thought have you thought of ringing Drinkline?

Sounds a bit nuts to me JC & Sofia, my feeling would be that he doesn't know what else to do.

        Detox in UK and Diazepam

        Bumping my old thread

Well, for anyone interested I failed miserably.

I ended up filling the prescription for the Diazepam but not taking it, and still drinking - although less than usual. I've not touched Vodka since my last post and that it a major achievement. It's so cheap with it coming up to the Christmas period that I have been sorely tempted to 'just' get a bottle in. But I haven't. That is a small victory for me.

I have made an appointment to see a different doctor again in 8 days time. My plan between now and then is to slowly taper down from my 1-2 bottles of wine a day and then just give up for good if the doctor agrees it is safe.

I'm am convinced that the Diazepam and drinking thing advised by the first doctor I saw was incorrect.

Hi Sofia. Detoxing from alcohol can be very dangerous depending on how much one has been drinking, for how long, etc. It sounds like your first doctor knew that, although i have not heard of the 6 month taper before. But I'm not a doc, so who knows.

I think it's great you have a different doc appointment in 8 days. I'm glad you came back!!! Let us know how we can help. Maybe between now and the appointment you can read some in the https://www.mywayout.org/community/f1...box-27556.html and maybe check out the newbies nest and make some friends for the journey!
