    Wine Moderation Program Failed !

Hi, All! I am sorry to report that the moderation with the wine did not work out for me. I was fine for the 30 days without, and then I had two glasses one night. A few nights later.....you guessed it....a whole bottle. I like the wine too much, and I do not stop at a few glasses. So I am going to get back on the no wine program. Today, is the day I am starting. I really thought it would work out, but the wine in the house is not going to work for me. I remember how great I felt every morning without the wine at night, and I want to get back to that. So I took a week and wined and dined, and now it's back to reality! I am catching it now before it goes back to the way it was. No thank you!:upset:

NMWTT, I am so happy you have recognized this sooner than later. I was so worried when you said you were going to mod. I honestly believe that once we have crossed over into problem drinking/alcoholism there is no going back. Its like the wiring has been set and its live. Not drinking makes the wires dormant but all it takes is a couple of drinks and the wires are hot again. Thank you for sharing your journey as I truly believe it will help others recognize this also.
AL free since March 17th 2011...loving this life. No drinking no matter what.

Hi my name is Lori and i am so happy to be here.

Good decision to hop right back on board!
My many, many attempts to moderate my wine drinking never worked either. When I found & joined MWO it was to quit - permanently

Best wishes to you, you can do it!

Great decision! Don't feel bad, at least you tried and know for sure that Moderation is not for you. Some know before that Moderation isn't for them and some discover that Moderation isn't or is for them after they start. I used to Moderate but I was constantly changing my mod plan (especially in the beginning,) and I was slowly slipping back to my old ways (last 2 months was not on the Mod plan at all) and so I quit for good. Moderation wasn't working for me anymore. Welcome to the abstinence group.
I quit drinking on March 8, 2020. Taking it One Day At A Time and no more taking my quit for granted.

Also doing it for me. I got to stay sober for me.

Just consecrate on today and do what you can to remain sober for today and worry about staying sober tomorrow, tomorrow.

Glad to hear your getting back on promptly while it's quick, relatively painless, and without the lousy day 1 feeling, no sleep for a week, and all the other stuff that comes from being back on old drinking habits and then putting on a quit. For me I could never mod simply because the only reason I drank was to get drunk. I just don't like drinking beer, gin or what have you for taste alone. Any alcohol at all sends my brain into getting smashed mode. Modding just seems like so much more work than abstaining completely.
              Good luck!

Thank you every one! I am not sure it will be forever, but at this point in my life, for so many reasons, it's better that I just stop buying it. I am not drinking it to get drunk, I am drinking it because I like the taste of it, so it's a bit different. Also, as we said, the ritual of it all. I think it would be fine to have it out when at dinner or seeing friends, but the buying it for the house and thinking a glass is okay is not going to work anymore. I do not consider it a failure, I just don't want to be doing that to pass the time. Maybe at some point the once in a while will work, but it is clear to me that this is not that point! Thank you for your support.

I agree. Once I take a sip, the switch doesn't go off until all the booze is gone. It took me through years of denial to GET IT!!! Isn't denial an interesting thing?
So it's abstinence for me. Day 70 AF today.

70 days x $24.00= $1680. No, I'm not kidding. That is how much $$ I have saved. I was drinking 2 bottles of wine a day every day.

I am on day 71 and I don't know exactly how much I saved but I know its a lot of money. In the old days I spent 60-80 on beer, shots, and the occaisonal mixed drink, and now when I go out for some sober me time karaoke I tend to only spend 10-20 dollars because the pop/Shirley temples only cost $1.25.

No off switch here either. I tried and failed and tried and failed and tried and failed some more to control my drinking. I just couldn't. It is SO much easier to just do without.

                        Welcome back to the wagon.

Sometimes I had an off switch when I told myself only 2-3 beers only, but that was rare.
