    Wine doesn't work

Hi all my friends here! I took a very relaxing trip today to a wine store , about 25 miles from my home ( the town I live in can't sell wine) I bought 2 bottles of Yellow Tail Merlot . I love it and thought I could drink just two glasses. But , just like Lay's Potatoe Chips , I couldn't have just one, or two, or three, or, now the bottles empty. LOL. It is funny, when I am with people I don't drink near as much, when I am alone , is when I drink to excess. My girlfriend's family is German-Irish, they all drink like fish ( if fish drink, LOL ) I drink 2 Miller Lites , and they wander why I don"t drink. They are not alcoholics , they just have fun. But I drink the most when I am alone. Am I really an alcoholic? I think I am , but I need friends to help me.:thanks:

HI SPIDER. Yep I was the same as you drank alone. And yep Yellow Tail Merlot that was one of my favourites among many. But I would buy one bottle or no I would buy two just in case I ran out then I would end up drinking the two bottles in one bloody night. AHHHHH

Who knows re, alcoholic I just know I can not drink like a normal person so I choose not to drink full stop! x

      Wine doesn't work

Hi Spider, Same pattern for me. Socially, I'd drink very little - from 5pm on at home, up to 2 bottles of wine (Wolf Blass or McGuigan's was my poison). I always bought at least 2 bottles because I had no idea how much I would drink but I definitely didn't want to run out.

I tried to moderate things early on but it didn't work for me. Pretty hard once you've crossed the line with drinking I think. I don't drink at all now and, while I haven't received all the blessings of sobriety that I'd hoped for, life is much better overall.

If you feel alcohol might have become a problem for you, you've come to the right place. There's much support and information here.
      Cheers

Hi Spiderweb, I too drank mostly by myself at home. I very rarely drank in public. I didn't want anyone to think I had a problem with alcohol. Its funny because now that I quit and I tell people I don't drink anymore, they don't understand. They tell me "you don't even drink that much". No one really had any idea that I was drinking every night after work til I passed out.

Thankfully I finally was able to quit the insanity and now my life is completely different. Not perfect, but I can handle life now and I am so grateful to wake up sober everyday.

No one can tell you if you are an alcoholic...only you can determine that. Yes there are lots of people who consume too much alcohol but for alcoholics there's a difference. Deep down I think we know if we have a problem. The biggest challenge is to admit it and do something about it.
AL free since March 17th 2011...loving this life. No drinking no matter what.

Hi my name is Lori and i am so happy to be here.

If you feel that your drinking is getting bad, chances are you have problems. Read the https://www.mywayout.org/community/f1...box-27556.html and set up a plan. I have a AF for August group (the link is in my signature) feel free to join that. Welcome aboard.
I quit drinking on March 8, 2020. Taking it One Day At A Time and no more taking my quit for granted.

Also doing it for me. I got to stay sober for me.

Just consecrate on today and do what you can to remain sober for today and worry about staying sober tomorrow, tomorrow.

            SpiderWeb:

My pattern is the same as yours -- I only over-drink when I am home alone! It's so frustrating! Why can I control it when I am out with my husband or others, but not at home? The wine is deceptive - it tastes so good at first, but after a few glasses I don't think I taste it anymore. I think I am going to try to be away from home during the "witching hour" (from 5-7 p.m.) before my hubby gets home, to avoid the temptation. This is hard since I have a young son, but the alternative is worse! Hang in there!
