      :hallo: Tipster..

Well, it's still early enough. It's not like you have to go to bed in an hour or anything. You must feel quite refreshed tho' and you must have needed the sleep. So now that you've had a good rest what's on the menu tonight??

Either you have a very high hedge or you have a low clothes line....

Well that's got that cleared up then.

Don't you want to know why I'd like to give Mr. Stirly to someone else. Well I really wouldn't want to load him on some other poor, unsuspecting woman but that's not the point....

I are fine, thanks, Jackie. Back from the Co-Op, so the fridge is full, but my stomach is regrettably still empty. How're you today? Have you had any more thoughts on volunteer work?

                        :hello: Reccie dear.

Okay, I'll only tell you tho' since Jackie doesn't want to know. And you have to promise not to tell her.

Well our day started off well enough yesterday. We went to the airport and had coffee and a walk around a small shopping outlet there and then went to get younger son and girlfriend who returned from their holiday in Egypt. They had a great time and were so pleased with their vacation. Anyway, we took them back to their place and stayed for lunch and then they showed us the pictures of their vacation. Wonderful pics and we had lovely visit. They’re so happy together that it is a pleasure to be in their company.

Then on the way home, as we were almost back to our town, Mr. Stirly did a very stupid thing. As we approached a red light - about 30 metres away, he slowed down a bit, looked around and saw that we were the only car at the intersection and the other cars on our side of the road were about 50 metres behind us and then he stupidly ran the red light. Note that Greeks tend to rev up the engine and run through yellow lights rather than slowing down and stopping if they have time. In fact, if you suddenly brake at a yellow light, you've got a real good chance of getting rear-ended. Anyway, I'm not by any means making excuses for him, I'm just explaining the mentality of the drivers here. And he's gone through yellow lights just as they were turning red on many occasions and I've commented on it strongly every time. Especially when he’s driving my car, because, besides the fact that it’s dangerous and illegal, if the license plates get removed, I’d be without a car, not him. Anyway, another 50 metres down the road was another red light and he slowed down and almost ran that one as well, but it turned green at the last second. These traffic lights are on the highway that goes to Athens where it intersects with small side roads that go to surrounding villages. Well the next traffic light was about 200 metres down the road and it was also red. He stopped at that and as he did, we heard the siren of a police car and a megaphone telling him to go through the intersection when the light turns green and to pull over to the right side of the road.

Turns out the car that was 50 metres behind us at the first red light was a traffic cop in an un-marked police van. And there were three other officers with him. Great. Fecking great.
So, to make a long story shorter, the fine is 700 euro for the red light plus 100 euro because his driver's license is ratty and should have been reissued so that you can actually read the fecking number on it. AND they removed the license plates from our van and they'll be held for 20 days AND best of all.... his license is suspended for 2 months. Now you may not know this but we run a family business that is 40 kilometres away from where we live and Mr. Stirly and I are the only ones in the business since just before Easter when younger son left to work elsewhere. I only work 3 days a week. So tell me how the f*uck is he supposed to drive back and forth to work the two days of the week that I don't
work for the next 2 months? Looks like I’ll have to work every day because if he's caught without a license it will be suspended for either 6 months or a year and he'll be fined again. Needless to say I am really pissed off about the whole thing and it certainly was not the best way for our holidays to start.

Going to apply for at least 2 of the part time places.
Found the number of the woman who helped me find the Action for Children work and also stands reference for me.

One of the jobs actually urges ex-alkies to apply. Now there's something I've never seen before.

Damn Stirls that's awful - I may have to tell my other half that story though, I've seen him run a few red lights in his time and he's only been driving just over a year. You must be furious!
I have faced it, a life wasted, and I am never going back there again

To ya'll my name is inchy. I am an alcoholic - and priority number one is making it to the end of this day AF. No excuses.

Blimey stirly, that's very unfair on you and not the kind of start to your break you would have wanted. :l Can you manage without the van? From what I remember, you said your car was little. Or do you have another vehicle available to you?

What kind of punishment have you got lined up for Mr Stirly? :bat :b&d:
