      Hello Everybody!!!

Just stopping by on my break.

Jackie - brilliant about your further weight loss. You'll have to start altering the waistline of your trousers soon.

Molly - I have a son who's a neat freak and a son who isn't. I don't much like housework but I don't like my house messy. A little dust doesn't bother me but clothes strewn around the place and coke on the floor I would not like. Not that they live at home anymore and haven't for a few years. But messy son's room was always that - messy. I once put a note on his door saying the the hotel management kindly requests that he remove the dead socks from under his bed so that the maid could vacuum under it. It worked. Not that it lasted long, mind you.
As for work - I can relate to working with people you don't like. It's not enjoyable and you rarely go to work in a good mood but just do what you can to get through it. This may sound trite and I don't mean it to - at least you have a job to go to. I know a lot of people who are out of work and are so strapped financially that it's scary. So even tho' you're not in the ideal working conditions for you and it must be very hard not working with your friends anymore, you do have a job and that is a big plus these days.
I hope your daughter and her boyfriend can get things straightened out. Are they still planning to go back to Canada. Best of luck with that if they are.

Zenners - thanks for the hurricane link you sent me. Glad to hear you'll only get some lousy weather out of it. And sweet dreams....

As for the freezing weather in CT Mr. Tiptronic - if you go to wunderground.com you'll see that Cape Town and Dublin both have temps of 14C right now. Mario's out and about on his bike, enjoying his ride. KTABbers is out in the garden and you are...:upset:

Ah Molly - I'm so sorry for all the shite that's come your way. And especially for those two kids who want so hard to have a good start in life and are willing to work at anything. It's just not fair. And the part about her boyfriend not getting any money is just wrong. It's not like he pays 600 euro mortgage payment and gets 900 rent. He could lose his apartment if he can't keep up the payments. I heard that in Canada if you're an immigrant over the age of 65 and have lived at least three years in Canada that you are entitled to an old age pension. I don't know how much it is but is seems older people are moving there from India and Pakistan and other countries where cost of living is lower than Canada. Now tell me what those people have contributed to Canada why they should be allowed to live there and receive a pension after only three years. They may have become citizens -which I doubt - but they certainly haven't the strength and determination that your kids have and they certainly won't be contributing to Canada economically or otherwise since their pensioners. It's just not fair that they get undeserved benefits and your kids aren't allowed to try and make a decent life for themselves. I'm sorry that things are so tough for you right now. Have yourself a good cry and hopefully you'll feel a little better getting it all out. Here's a :huggy. Wish I could give you one from up close...

I personally know a man who ran his own business for 30 years with 3 premises, created employment for dozens of people for many years and always payed his taxes. Last year his businesses failed and the company put into liquidation. Everything he worked for years for was gone with the exception of his family home. Now this man was in his late 50s without any income. He went to the social welfare and asked them for money to buy food. He was told sell your holiday home, which was a small cottage which had been left to his wife. As you know its impossible to sell property now but they refused to give him one penny. He is trying to sell it and right now living on hand outs from family. Thats the way we reward entrepreneurs and people who create employment. Far better to give him a leg up and help to start again I would have thought.

You're absolutely right KTAB. Shame on them for not helping him out. It's frightening here how many businesses have closed. Mr. Stirly and I have talked about it many times. We have customers who are just barely getting along and a couple who have closed their business. Which means they've lost their income as have the employees they had and the person that they rented the commercial space from has lost that income. And it's not gotten as bad as it's going to get. The real estate business has died out completely and many construction companies have gone bankrupt since they can't sell their houses and apartments. Even if they slashed prices, which they won't, the banks aren't giving out any loans. Just bad news everywhere, unfortunately.

Well I have to get back to work. I've been popping in and out to check on the posts. Now I'm outta here.

Molly dear - I hope things look up for you and your family very soon. Again...:l:l

Mollers: have a few :l:l:l s from me as well.

Post lunchtime check-in... My day has turned out quite well and I have no more meetings for the rest of today. I've also booked out my whole day tomorrow so that I can catch up on admin stuff and prepare for a presentation I have to give on Friday.

                      Afternoon all

Sorry to hear about your various troubles Molly - the welfare system in this country is a mess. I won't go into my views on the matter, family raised on welfare I tend to get a little passionate (and wound up) about the situation and about how people on welfare are sometimes viewed by others.

JC: your job sounds really amazing, sure could use more organisations like that methinks (as mwo proves).

and of course all this talk of eveyrones drinking journeys has given food for thought indeed...

Much happened while I was away waving me hankie goodbye to the son and heir when he went back to his garret.
