I reckon it's because you have a good cold winter to prompt the spring blooms. We often dig our bulbs up and put them in the fridge to simulate that.

Interesting. On the advice of the gardener-undies, I had put the bulbs in the vegie compartment of the fridge for about two months before I planted them. The greenery came up very quickly for everything once I did (hyaincth, irises, crocuses and ranunculus).

Hyacinth flowered first and were perfectly formed and lovely in the middle of winter!

Irises were next, but literally sprinted into bloom the week after we had the snow (very unusual for Wgtn). I cut them and took them to Mum, and then another lot sprouted (diff bulbs obviously). I have two left - 1 purple and 1 yellow.

Crocuses have been flowering for about 10 days, but I dont want to cut them just yet!! They smell glorious and I want to be able to sit on the deck this weekend and take their scent in.

I think I failed on the Ranunculus ..... only just starting to get flower heads emerging but around the neighborhood they are in full bloom!

OK ....of to see what Mrs Google says at semaphoring .....

TF I love what you shared earlier, all of it!

You lot are a hoot. I made some dinner. Only I just seem to have left some dirt clinging to the cauliflower. I hate that darn crunch of dirt.

Found that post Beags re tomatoes...

If you harvest your own get them good and dry in the sun for two days.
I sow mine into a nursery flat tray, but punnets are cool.
I use seed raising mix, water it first, sow seeds and cover with about 2mm of more seed raising mix, then water really lightly so seeds don't wash out.
Water with a spray bottle until they germinate.
Plant them out at about 3-4cm, second set of leaves are visible.
They love seaweed and Charlie Carp and also Dynamic Lifter a bit later on when flowering.
If your 8 year old self met you, would they be proud?
