Great pictures ladies. RC - that lake looks so peaceful. Do you have loons on it? I love loons - love their call. My Dad used to take us mud-cat fishing on a pond that had a family of loons. I enjoyed watching and listening to them as much as the fishing. Note the babies on the mother's back.
Hiya Stirly~~I've been camping in the interior of Algonquin and seen a loon with about 12 babies! They were moseying by the little island we were camping on and then woosh took flight. I have pics somewhere.

This pic is ducks but I have seen loons. Been out on the paddle boat and had a loon come about 20 feet from me. They are quite curious when not threatened and yes love, love, love the call of the loon.

Good Lord it's afternoon already GG and Canucks! Bright and sunny and I'm taking that and not sending it anywhere! So there....

Yep, daughter put those mats down for the shock absorbancy too. She share the keep of a friends horse who has bad joints too. Also they had a strange electrical issue in the spring that was causing the horses to get shocked when they drank. They never really figured out why it was happening but it passed. Weird.

Had a lovely bright moment last night on FB. There's a buzz about, about daughter purchasing her wedding dress(I won't get a pic until tonight ). Anyways, when discussing getting a pic, she actually addressed me as Mom (in public!). No doubt my other daughter and son will see this. I hope by the wedding they will be calling me that again too.

          Have a good'un!

            Hello again Ca-knuckles!!

RC - thanks for the picture. You must really like that you live on a lake. Do you see much wildlife? As I mentioned a few posts back, I worked in Banff for two winters. The school of Fine Arts is located part-way up a mountain and we often had dear outside our dorm windows. Lovely creatures, they are. Also, black bears used to come and raid the garbage bins outside the school kitchen. That was kind of scary I'll tell you. You went to throw out the trash and came face to face a bear. And there were lots of coyotes as well. I ran into one on a street late one night as I was footing it home from a pub. Luckily, it was more afraid than I was. I expect that the many beer that I'd drank gave me courage I might not have had sober. Well, maybe courage isn't the right word for it.:H:H:H

My sister lives on a part of Lake Ontario - their property goes down to the water and they see deer quite often as well and the odd coyote but what scares me is that they have wolves as well. That I would not like.

Sunny-bean, I never thought about the horses not needing heat. I guess wild horses survive freezing temperatures so domesticated ones can too.

Hoping you're all having a great day!!!

Whoops... I missed ya, too Froglet! You musta snuck in here real quietly :H
Thank you for the barn comments We've got all sorts of lumber in there... some from the property, some not. The outside boards are pine (not from the property), treated with a product by Sikkens (the beams are treated with the same). The beams are hemlock (also not from the property), the braces, the front siding, the 3 dutch doors, the main barn doors and the tack room walls are oak (all from the property) and the floor in the tack room is maple (also from the property). And the lumber that'll got in the horse stalls is cedar. Aren'tcha glad ya asked!? :H

So glad you popped in here! Please do more often!

Stirls, at my old place (south of here on the main land) I had lots of wolves. Just behind my chicken coop and horse barn they'd used to sit in low fog and sing. It was quite beautiful, actually. I did have 2 of them stalk around the coop once in March (end of winter, they were hungry) but they didn't do any damage. Now, fishers were a whole different story :upset: 7 chickens and 5 rabbits in one night.

                  Oh look, I'm multi-posting again
Anywhoo.. back to the grind stone for me. Have a terrific Thursday!!!

                    :wavin: Ca-knuckles!!

Sunny-bean, I didn't know if eucalyptus makes good building material either so I went to Ask.com and this is what I found...

In its native land of Australia, the eucalyptus was found in virgin forests and provided the settler with a multitude of products from firewood to strong timbers. It was used in the manufacture of ships, bridges, railroad ties, railroad vehicles, wagons, furniture, agricultural implements, paving blocks, barrels, poles, piles, and posts. It was used just like hickory, oak, and ash in the United States.
Hardness, strength, durability, and flexibility varies with each species. Eucalyptus is generally very tough, and resists denting, tension, and torsion.169 Strength tests done early this century found that eucalyptus compares with white oak and hickory. Australian and California grown eucalyptus were tested for strength and found that there wasn't any difference.
Because eucalyptus uses extreme amounts of water to feed its fast growth, the woodgrains are few, and the texture is very dense. Freshly cut eucalyptus wood will sink in water because of its weight.171 After being dried, shrinkage of eucalyptus timber is between 34.6% and 13.5% depending upon the species and environmental conditions.Eucalyptus serves man well. It has more useful purposes than any other tree on earth. For example, it provides forest cover for any terrain from mountains to swamps. It gives shade and acts as a windbreak. It furnishes gum, resin, oil, and nectar. When cut it is used for fuel, construction, poles, posts, and hardwood products. The eucalyptus even has the reputation of improving the climate in which it grows.

(In checking my post, I realized that it matches my avatar. Completely by mistake. Geez.)

Wow, too bad about the chickens and rabbits. Actually when I first read what you wrote, I thought you meant one of these...

when you meant one of these...

                    Duh.

Hope you have a productive day and :hallo: to any peeps who drop by later.

Seems a bit quiet on the boards these days...:upset:

We hear quite a bit about Greece here as well (CBC radio). No, it doesn't sound good at all. Neither does any news from the States. Last time Mr. Wonderful was in Indianapolis he found whole blocks of upper middle class homes boarded up/deserted. Mortgages flipped and people just leave. It's quite scary.

I'm so grateful Canada hasn't been hit that hard (yet) and we live in the woods and could pretty much live off the land/barter with surrounding farmers if it ever came to that.
