    The Canucks Co

Well, I feel just lousy hearing that LoOp has died. Did many of you know him? I remember him from the old days on The Sinclair Method forum. We are in such a sorry state, aren't we? We drink and drink to quell anxiety or depression or for whatever wacky reason we have...and struggle and struggle.

Poor young man. Gee I feel bad about this.

    Tomorrow will be better.

I'm sorry to hear that, Jmum... no, I didn't know Loop. So very sad, though.

:l Don't let it get you down too much, though.. ok?

Good Morning fellow Canucks - very quiet here but that's ok - today is going to be a good day. We're awake and moving forward :H

I am seeing the difference between depression and 'situational depression' and I think it's worth mentioning. With the death of LoOp I felt such a wave of depression come over me - and that after my mood really being very good for a few days. I was afraid I'd get into a spiral again.

But then I realized it's perfectly reasonable to be depressed when something sad happens. I mean it's really a kind of sorrow and helplessness that comes.

So I feel better actually just realizing that. It's good to feel that sorrow when someone young and so good dies: but it's not DEPRESSION that should lead to all kinds of downward stuff.

Rain here again so muddy dog :upset: but at least I'm home, warm, loved, lots of good food to eat and tree to decorate later. All is well. Hope everyone out there is having such a great day that there is just no time to post :h:h

Good morning everyone! Happy Sunday to all. We woke up to an icy-winter-wonderland this morning as all the rain of yesterday turned into ice and coated everything. We took it very slow on the way to Mass but got there fine. So many tree limbs down, especially the big old willows - they seem to be so fragile.

But it sure is beautiful out there now that I'm in for the day. :H The Christmas tree did not get finished yesterday as I "lazied" out so this afternoon I have to get it done and I hate doing it!!

Anyway I will not feel lonely here - I know all you Canucks are out there shopping, baking, wrapping, and just doing your own thing - and that you'll all be back eventually :H

            :hallo: JMum

Did the baking yesterday, was going to do the tree today.... but it doesn't look as if Mr. Sun cut one down. Hmmm. Oh well.

Spent a few hours in the barn this afternoon - shovelling snow mostly, mucking out, feeding horses, etc. Turned on the lights of their Christmas tree (oh yes, my horses have had a tree for weeks!) :H - cranked up some tunes... it was nice.

Tomorrow it's off to the big smoke to get my daughter and her entourage for Christmas. There was lots of drama with the kids and unfortunately, it looks as though my son won't be coming. Disappointing, but that is his choice.. not mine. This whole affair did prompt me to recite an adaptation of the serenity prayer... ".. grant me the serenity to accept the kids I cannot kill...

And, with that... I'm outta here. Have a fabulous day.. enjoy the winter wonderland! Thankfully, no freezing rain here, but oodles more sn*w.

            Sigh.

Merry Christmas to all you wonderful Canucks out there who are loyal enough to stick around and NOT take off for Florida or Mexico, or Cuba or any other fabulously WARM clime :H

Here in snow-land we had a quiet but nice Christmas Day. Son came down, husband and dog both behaved themselves, turkey was nice and moist, gravy was lump-less, mince tarts and shortbread were way too tasty, red wine and 'good night brandy' were imbibed in moderation...all in all a great day.

              :h:h

                Merry Christmas Jmum and all!

It was a good Christmas; Junior and family came after all... the drama having all been played out prior to the holidays. Spent some time with the oldest grand peanut in the snow

Have a fabulous rest of the week/year!

                  Hi GG!!!

Is that Grand Peanut? He is soooo cute!!!! Lots of broken hearts out there when he grows up. I'm proud of you for rolling with the punches over the holiday, and laughed hyserically at "grant me the serenity to accept the kids I cannot kill!!":H:H You always crack me up. Your horses have their own Christmas tree? Fabulous!

Off to bed....see you in the mornink.

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, 'n all that jazz, dear Rustbucket!!!! :l
Did you have a nice one? And, was Santa good to you?

Yes, that's the oldest Grand Peanut, Davey (my daughter's). Here's the younger one, Landen (my son's) with my daughter (6 months pregnant)

My fav presents: A truly gorgeous framed picture of my son and his little one, a picture frame serving tray (Espresso wood, and there's room for 4 photos), and of course, the new name plates for my horses. All in all, a great haul

Merry Christmas week before New Year's to all....boy what a great pic...brings back memories of all the Christmases when my children were little with all the toys and paper and boxes strewn all over...sigh! :h

My son (now 42!!!) came and was very quiet - couldn't wait to get back to the city - we don't see him except on Christmas....daughter (44!!!) off to warn climes with her hubby and she lives far away anyway and wouldn't be here anyway...my husband and I have resigned ourselves to knowing that we are alone for Christmas and that's it. He sadly is estranged from his son and grandkids (long long story and hope will be resolved soon). I know my children love me but they live such completely different, busy, lives and I live such a quiet, low key life that - well it is what it is. :upset:

But no need for me to drink my sadness away is there? My many years of drinking made me a bad mother in many ways and now I pay the price. I did not provide the kind of life where my children have tons of happy memories of a warm, loving, always totally present, attention-giving mother. We reap what we sow.

Don't mean to be such a downer!!! I feel good today now that I've said my prayers, had a strong coffee, seen the above pictures, and know I'm now safe and warm and loved - and drink in a controlled way:

and with baclofen ready to be started on Monday there is no place but GOOD in my future. So again Merry Christmas week before New Years - and happy returning gift and shopping days to those who do those things :h:h

It's almost over Shortbread almost gone, down to one bag of chips and half a jar of salsa, only a few tarts left and no more social things to get through for a while :H:H.

Good morning everyone out there in icy storm/snowy day land. But we love it eh? Sunshine, I've been reading your thread and find such happiness there now that you've found a path. Good for you!

I've been posting this around the forum so might as well put it here too as it's so thought provoking. It's from The Four Agreements - it's an older book but I just got the inspiration to dig it out and at least have a gander at the agreements themselves. They can be lived just on their own without even reading the rest of the book. Here's #4.

                        4. Always Do Your Best:
Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse, and regret.

Choose the good, speak love and truth, use words to mirror love and happiness, speak about others in a kind way always! Gee, lots for me to learn there. I flap my jaws so much and don't always say nice things....I'm learning :h

                          Hi JMum!

I can totally relate to the very different life style (kids/parents)... while my son has turned more into the country/outdoorsy type, my daughter is now a confirmed city slicker. I think she's breathing a sigh of relief as soon as she gets off the island Her little one, however, LOVES it here and would much rather be outside than inside. Kind of a funny tid bit: We were imagining the day care's reaction to his account of Christmas: "Every day, Oma took me to the bar!" Of course, it's the barn... but the 'n' seems to get lost in translation, lately :H

I hope your kids/grand kids/other attached people will come to terms, somehow, as well. Life is just too short to be angry and resentful all the time But then, we didn't figure that out in our 20s, either, did we? They all have to come to their own conclusions in their own time.

Love the #4 Agreement! Thank you for that.

Apropos, returning gifts... We did have to return one gift... Peanut's remote control Thomas train. The remote just wouldn't talk to the train. While doing so, we ended up with a woman who should DEFINITELY NOT be anywhere near a customer service desk. Just plain rude and completely uninterested in being anywhere near helpful. So, I put on my sweetest smile and told her step by step what she needed to do. I thought, she was gonna thump me :H

Well, enough dilly-dallying... time to restore some order around here. Have a fabulous weekend!

Bitter cold here but I've got enough food in the fridge to eat for a week.. so I ain't venturing out! :H Well, except to feed critters 'n stuff. Oh, and AA meeting tonight, I suppose.

Good Morning and Happy New Year, Sunnikins, and all other Canuckettes,

Sunni- I love love love all your pics! I don't know which one I like best, the one of Peanut and your daughter or the horses with a stocking on the door of the stall.:H Your daughter is really cute! Does she know whether she is having a girl or a boy?

Yes, Mrs. Santa (my mom) spoiled me rotten with a new dishwasher (mine has been on the fritz for 6 months....it's quite the drag to give a dinner party for 7 people and have to do the dishes by hand. BOO HOO!, and she bought me 5 pcs. of my china pattern. She's such a sweetheart. I have the most generous mother in the world.

Re: the weather- it's -1 Celcius here. Quite nipply, wouldn't you say? Oh yeah, today, I'll go to the gym and then come home and park my fat *ss in front of a roaring fire, then pad around in my fuzzy slippers and polish off the rest of my Christmas bon bons. Oink, oink. :-)

Sunni-I owe you a PM, but like you, today, I am working so will try to get to it tonight. I have something I have wanted to share with you for a long time!

I'll be back later. I hope all the Canucks here had a Merry Christmas and are not anxious about New Year's. I'm not.
