THIS BOOK WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE

@UW, thanks for the compliment -- I'm always assuming everyone is a better writer than I. You know that poem, Sailing to Byzantium, that goes, "the good lack all conviction, and the bad are filled with passionate intensity..."

And it would be nice if they indicated it was a sales pitch. But the two ladies made it thoroughly worthwhile anyway. I never got the protein shake thing (except for bodybuilders and others who need to gain weight) as I think a lot of people drink the shake AND have dinner lolz. And their protein shake has only 1 g more protein than a regular homemade milkshake. Guess which I'd want?

THIS BOOK WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE

Just wanted to check in today since I will probably not be checking in until next Monday. I am going to Las Vegas for a girls vacation with my sisters and friends. I am quite close to finishing the book. I know I said I was reading it very slowly to fully absorb all of the points in it, but I realized the slow reading was more of a cop out as to not finish it before my trip. That said, I still like reading it slowly, really getting all the points.

Any suggestions on what I should do in Vegas ? Tipp suggested I really observe all the other drinkers. I've actually been doing that and I think Vegas is a great place for observation of drinkers all along the continuum. It's also a good place to notice all the brainwashing around us.

Good luck to all of you with this book. Happy belated birthday Tipplerette!

3 guesses and the first two don't count, right Crimsons?

LFP - have a wonderful trip. Maybe you could just try to really monitor your own intake of alcohol and control it. I think you're planning on total AF when you return? Not sure - maybe it's going to depend on the rest of the book for you? Anyway, have a good trip and be safe.

I love your website, too, Tipplerette! Great idea, but I know I'd get to week two and my bad habit called: "procrastinating by playing some dumb video game instead of working on bad habits" would kick in and I'd be done!
Unwasted, I've been wondering if Jason Vale has noticed an uptick in his sales and think he should cut you in some of his profits!
Crimsons - Hello again! I've missed chatting with you on the boards. I've been somewhat preoccupied with my husband's health and can't get on here as often as I'd like. But I have a small correction: right poet, wrong poem. It's from Yeats's "The Second Coming": "The best lack all conviction, while the worst/Are full of passionate intensity." One of the all time great poems in the English language!
Good habits breed good habits; bad habits breed bad habits.

Tonstant, I wish he could win a pulitzer for his book. I hate be evangelical about it, but I can't help but want to let people know that it's a valuable tool. Of the countless books about addiction, it's the only one that's truly given me the ability to stop drinking.

Thanks for the birthday wishes, Peace; it's not until the 8th. Don't forget to observe the most important person there in Las Vegas: YOU. Try to observe the tastes, the feelings and the physical results of drinking in yourself. That was the nail in the coffin for alcohol for me. It does nothing for me. Period. Have fun in Vegas and Good Luck...

Tips, I haven't visited the blog yet but I will.

Tonstant, I loved this line "procrastinating by playing some dumb video game instead of working on bad habits" pretty much sums me up a lot of the time.

In Vegas focus on the shows and the fun stuff. The machines blaring away in the casinos always makes me feel a little nuts.

Yay Daisy, You added your "Not Drinking since.." to your signature. I did that the day I finished the book too. Daisy, although I am not even counting the days I remember it was last Friday when I finished the book and guess what? You won't even THINK about drinking. It's just left my reality. I am so enjoying the freedom from the constant counting, waiting, drinking, despairing, counting, waiting, drinking, despairing, counting.... need I go on.

I am so excited about the people who are actually ordering and reading the book. It works. Period.

Tattoo is becoming closer to a reality; told everyone and calling around to find the right 'artist'... might have to be after the birthday as Thanksgiving Weekend (Cananda) is crazy. But it's going on my skin.

Unwasted, thanks for visiting my Blog. Your's was the first comment. I am working on it and can't wait for Monday to start my new habits.

Geekteeth - so happy to hear that you'll be reading the book. Looking forward to your feedback.

Tips, I'm not happy because I can't get in touch with the tattoo guy - so I'm going to try a different one. Re your blog - I didn't have a lot of time to spend on it, but it looked fantasic from what I saw. Will try to visit it again soon.

Daisy - I'd like to hear more about the book from you too! I find myself wanting to post "Valeisms" but don't want to take away from the experience people will have if they read it on their own. It's like someone turned on a light and I find myself wondering why I couldn't see it this way before. Doesn't matter - I see it now!

                        Best to you all!

@TW, oh I shoulda looked it up!! All English-lang poetry is turning into one big blended smoothie...

Felt great today. Tomorrow, all-lady bike group and lunch after. Then a seaweed cooking class at 6:30! I went in one of my old "markets" where I would buy wine and vodka at any (early) hour. I got only garbage bags and I thought the clerk would faint. In fact, as I was steaming toward the register he must have assumed I'd veer over to the booze and he walked away! So far still not wanting AL.

THIS BOOK WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE

Good on you, Crimsons !! It's funny to see the look on their faces, eh? I just finished a phone conversation with my oldest son; we're close. We were talking about a family party in Montreal we both will be going to. He said he didn't know what he was going to do with his one year old as the party progressed. I said, "I'm not drinking." I'll watch her". He couldn't believe I would not even drink at a social occasion and asked for an explanation as he does not think I have a drinking "Problem". I explained that when someone spent too much time focusing on something, whether it is real or imagined, it's better to remove the issue ie. stop drinking, in order to free up one's mind for more productive and creative thoughts. By removing alcohol, I am free to pursue my passions, interests and move on with my life. It's like a huge weight has been lifted.

Enjoy your all-lady bike group. Sounds like fun.

UnWasted, sounds like both our tattoos won't happen until next week at the earliest. Let's be in not too much of a rush as it is a life-long piece of art we'll be displaying on our wrists... not to be careened into.

Life is wonderful... and by the way hubby and I are facing stresses right now but it's all so easy when Booze isn't there to cloud my perception.

I've had lots of "AHA" moments with this book, but this was a biggie for me - why is it that I feel instantly relaxed and unwound with my first sip of wine after a long stressful day? It's obviously not a physical release after just one sip. It's mental.

If that's true, then I don't need the wine to relax. I just need to create a different, healthier ritual.

TEA ... become a tea junkie like me. Buy all the good teas out there. Mix em up. I mix dandelion (tasteless but amazing for the liver), mint and hibiscus (tasty and good for blood pressure). I brew one tea bag and each time I boil water I add another tea bag or handful of loose tea. Makes for an interesting concoction after three pots. And when you take your first sip, you hear yourself saying "Aahhhhh" just like wine.
