THIS BOOK WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE

TWO, I also read Allen Carr's book, which I really liked. I think it helped me, but nothing like this book. They are similar in principal, but there is something different about this one for me. Hope it works for you and Irie.

THIS BOOK WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE

Not supposed to be counting but Friday was my last drink; the day before I finished the book. I really think the book was written very intelligently with a clear purpose to alter our thought patterns. It really altered mine. I am now reading the threads and feeling sorry for those who still look at quitting as a a burden and a sacrifice. The book convinced me (finally) that I was GAINING not losing anything by quitting. It also was the first time I ever told myself that it was forever; not temporary. I could not live with that concept before reading J Vale's book.

Last night I asked hubby if he would like his usual glass of wine with the nice shrimp stirfry I made. He said yes, I opened the bottle, poured him one and didn't even get myself a drink of water. Just ate my meal and made some tea afterwards. He only had two glasses and then drank tea. And it was NO problem.

One thing he says in the book that I can't help repeating. When our EGO or self-trash talk says "Oh ya, I CAN'T drink." I immediately think "Constant and Never-ending Torture" and correct myself by saying "I am FREE from having to drink." I am the lucky one; not the suffering one.

Even thinking of getting my first tattoo at age 55 LOL - looking for a symbol of freedom ... I am finally FREE !!!!!!!!!!!

Guys, I really hope it re-sets your thought patterns too. Good luck.

Tips, you and I are on exactly the same track. Never before was I able to truly feel happy about quitting. I always felt like it was a sacrifice and that I was missing out. My husband has beer around me but I'm not tempted in any way. I know I gush about this book and sound evangelical, but it's hard not to when something finally gave you the freedom from the constant struggle of trying to control alcohol. Really happy to hear that it has also worked for you.

Tipps, what a great idea. I might keep that one in mind for the day I feel really free. My book due in the next couple of days, so really looking forward to it.

I can just see my childrens faces if I come home with a tattoo - my daughter has 2 and I tut-tutted over both. What would you get as your 'new freedom' tattoo? And, hear they can be painful....

THIS BOOK WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE

I actually was looking online this morning and came up with a Libra balancey type symbol with wings.. I tried to download the link here but couldn't do it. I think I will put it on my inner wrist and make it the size of a toonie. Every time I raise a glass of anything, I'll see it...

It's so tempting to tell everyone and anyone on this forum about this book but I try to keep a low profile as it's early on and I've tooted my own horn before with disastorous results.

Daisy45 with everything I know about you from our previous thread-sharing exchanges, you will be convinced because I think you are like me, open to the expansion of your thoughts and open to seeing things from a different angle. He asks you to keep an open mind as you are reading through the book and you will, Daisy, I know it. Let us know...

              Tips

PS let's choose a tattoo together (even design one) and all get one.

Tips, I absolutely love your suggestion about the tattoo. I'm in. The idea that we will see it every time we raise a glass is absolutely brilliant. I'll look for some designs too.

Also, I understand not wanting to go on too much about the book - it makes one feel insecure should we crater! I have never been brave enough to put it all out there for fear of failure too. In my namesake's book, (Unwasted by Sacha Scoblic) the author talks about how the minute she decided to stop drinking she e-mailed everyone she knew so she'd force herself into being committed. You know, that's not all bad if it helps us stay sober.

I think we should keep this thread alive. Here is what I perceive to be the difference between what like-minds on this thread are living and what we may not find on other threads:
                    1. Never have a drink again (moderation is not an option) - can't believe I am saying that
                    2. We are not suffering, we are FREE
                    3. We go to parties, events, 'situations' where alcohol will be served
                    4. We don't count days
                    5. We don't drink substitute drinks (before I started this habit, I often didn't drink anything at parties)
                    6. We are not fighting urges; we are reminding our little 'voices' that we are free and that we don't do something that gives us nothing in return except ill-health, empty pockets, low self-esteem, numbness, lethargy, etc.
                    Etc...

                    What are the other differences?

                    Let's find a TATTOO !!!

THIS BOOK WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE

If we ever find ouselves thinking in terms of "we can't drink" we'll remind ourselves of the:

                      C - Constant
                      A - And
                      N - Never ending
                      T - Torture of Alcohol
                      • If you view one drink as pleasurable, you'll view 1,000 as pleasurable
                        • Drinking sets off a chain reaction that will last the rest of your life unless you break it
                          • Cured means making absolutely certain that whatever happens you'll never have just one because you'll re-create the diseaseIf you cut down, that just makes you believe alcohol is even more precious than you thought, which makes you even more hooked, because the hook is mental, not physical within 3 to 10 days of stopping
The drug will never change - only your perception of it changes
If you stop drinking you will be free from the DAILY MENTAL AND PHYSICAL SLAVERY OF DRUG ADDICTION

Oh shit, now I'm thinking; 'does this mean I'm really getting a tattoo?!!!'
Just been telling one of my daughters - she thinks I'm not wise anyway, but now with you girls for company..........she's worried for my sanity!!!!:H (I still think it's a great idea!)

Right, we'll all get to work on our new AF lives and check out suggestions for those tattoos. I think putting it where you can see it when you lift a drink is an exellent idea, but looks to be a tender area............I am the biggest yellow-belly!!!!!!

Yes, but my daughter in law just had her daughter's name tattooed there and she's no worse for the wear.

                          Who's in for the tattoo?

UnWasted, I just cut and pasted your C A N T post to myself in an email as a good reminder.

Tips, I love the Chinese writing one - I had googled that myself. I think the birds are so small and dark, they might not be apparent and might just look like smudges???

Here's what we should commit to if we really take this all the way and want to be very brave. If we crater and drink, we have to agree to tattoo "addict" on the other wrist..........LOL ---- not really, but I like the concept.

Daisy, you're making me laugh with the story about your daughter!:H

What about a butterfly? Isn't that a sign of new life or rebirth, or something...duh, well, it is beautiful and colourful...what you think?
I liked the wee birds too - tiny and cute...
